HOBBYFLY EC5 Parallel Charging Board 2S-6S Lipo Battery User Manual

Model: EC5 Parallel Charging Board

Brand: HOBBYFLY

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient use of the HOBBYFLY EC5 Parallel Charging Board. This board is designed to connect and charge 1 to 5 LiPo, LiFe, or Li-ion batteries in parallel, specifically supporting 2S-6S battery configurations (excluding 5S). It is compatible with various balance chargers such as Imax B6, B6AC, HOTA, HTRC, and ISDT.

Key Features

  • Parallel Charging Capability: Allows simultaneous charging of 1 to 5 LiPo, LiFe, or Li-ion batteries (2S-6S, no 5S).
  • Enhanced Safety: Features built-in removable safety fuses for each charging channel to protect against short circuits.
  • Improved Balance Efficiency: Designed to prevent individual cell overcharge, leading to more efficient balancing and shorter charging cycles.
  • Time-Saving: Significantly reduces total charging time compared to charging batteries individually.
  • Broad Compatibility: Works with popular balance chargers including Imax B6, B6AC, HOTA, HTRC, and ISDT.
  • Connection Types: Equipped with EC5 plug type for battery connections and includes XT60 charge and 4.0mm Banana plug cables for charger connection.
  • Compact Design: Measures approximately 120mm x 72mm x 10mm (4.72 x 2.83 x 0.4 inches).
  • Fuse Rating: Each channel is protected by a 40A fuse.

Package Contents

Verify that all items listed below are present in your package:

  • 1 x HOBBYFLY EC5 Parallel Charging Board
  • 1 x XT60 Female to XT60 Female Cable
  • 1 x XT60 Female to Banana Plug Cable
  • 1 x 6S Balance Cable

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to properly set up your parallel charging board:

  1. Connect Balance Cable: Connect one end of the provided 6S balance cable to the balance port on your balance charger. Connect the other end of the balance cable to the designated "CHARGER BALANCE" port on the HOBBYFLY Parallel Charging Board.
  2. Connect Power Cable: Use either the XT60 Female to XT60 Female cable or the XT60 Female to Banana Plug cable (depending on your charger's output) to connect the "CHARGER INPUT" port on the parallel charging board to the main power output port of your balance charger.
  3. Prepare Batteries: Ensure all batteries to be charged are of the same cell count (e.g., all 3S, all 4S) and are at a similar state of discharge. Do not mix different cell counts or significantly different voltage levels when parallel charging.

Operating Instructions (Charging Process)

Once the board is connected to your charger, proceed with charging your batteries:

  1. Connect Batteries - Balance First: For each battery you wish to charge, first connect its balance lead to the corresponding balance port on the parallel charging board. Ensure the correct cell count port is used (e.g., 3S battery to a 3S port).
  2. Connect Batteries - Power Second: After connecting the balance lead, connect the battery's main power lead (EC5 connector) to one of the available EC5 ports on the parallel charging board.
  3. Set Charger Parameters: On your balance charger, set the charging voltage and current as if you were charging a single battery of the same cell count. The parallel board distributes the current among the connected batteries.
  4. Start Charging: Initiate the charging process on your balance charger. Monitor the charging progress and battery temperatures.
  5. Disconnect Batteries: Once charging is complete, first disconnect the main power leads (EC5) from the parallel board, then disconnect the balance leads.

Safety Information

Adhere to these safety guidelines to prevent damage and ensure safe operation:

  • Always connect the balance leads before the main power leads when connecting batteries to the board.
  • Always disconnect the main power leads before the balance leads when removing batteries from the board.
  • Only charge batteries of the same cell count (e.g., all 3S) simultaneously.
  • Ensure all batteries connected in parallel are at a similar voltage level to avoid excessive current flow.
  • Do not exceed the maximum current rating of your charger or the parallel board.
  • The board includes removable 40A safety fuses for each channel. If a fuse blows, replace it with an identical 40A fuse.
  • Never leave charging batteries unattended.
  • Charge in a fire-safe area, away from flammable materials.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your charging board:

  • Cleaning: Keep the board clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquids or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the board in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and moisture when not in use.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all connectors and cables for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Replace any damaged components immediately.
  • Fuse Replacement: If a fuse blows, carefully remove it and replace it with a new 40A fuse of the same type.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Charger Not Detecting Batteries:
    • Ensure all balance and power connections are secure and correctly oriented.
    • Verify that the balance cable is properly connected to both the charger and the board.
    • Check if any fuses on the board have blown. Replace if necessary.
  • Uneven Cell Voltage After Charging:
    • Ensure all batteries connected in parallel are of the same cell count and type.
    • Confirm that your balance charger is functioning correctly.
    • Check for any loose balance connections.
  • Board or Cables Getting Hot:
    • Reduce the charging current.
    • Ensure good ventilation around the charging setup.
    • Verify that the total current draw does not exceed the board's or cables' ratings.

If problems persist, please contact customer support for assistance.
