1. Important Safety Instructions

3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your coffee maker for the first time:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and accessories.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the water tank, portafilter, capsule adapter, drip tray, and stainless steel jug with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Fill Water Tank: Fill the removable water tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level. Ensure the tank is properly seated.
  4. First Use Cycle: Before making coffee, run a cycle without coffee to prime the system. Place a cup under the coffee outlet. Turn on the machine and allow it to heat up. Once ready, press the coffee button to dispense hot water. Repeat this process for the steam wand as well.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the appliance into a grounded 220V power outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Preparing Coffee (Ground Coffee)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Insert the appropriate filter basket into the portafilter for one or two cups.
  3. Add ground coffee to the filter basket using the measuring spoon. Level and tamp the coffee gently.
  4. Attach the portafilter to the brewing head by aligning it and turning it to the right until secure.
  5. Place one or two cups on the drip tray under the portafilter spouts.
  6. Press the desired coffee button (single or double shot). The machine will brew and stop automatically.
  7. Carefully remove the portafilter after brewing and discard the used coffee grounds.

4.2. Preparing Coffee (Capsules)

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Insert the capsule adapter into the portafilter.
  3. Place a compatible Nespresso or Dolce Gusto capsule into the adapter.
  4. Attach the portafilter with the capsule adapter to the brewing head.
  5. Place a cup under the coffee outlet.
  6. Press the single coffee button. The machine will brew and stop automatically.
  7. Carefully remove the portafilter after brewing and discard the used capsule.

4.3. Frothing Milk

  1. Fill the stainless steel jug with cold milk (do not fill more than one-third).
  2. Turn the steam knob to the steam position. The steam indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Once the machine reaches the correct temperature, position the steam wand into the milk, just below the surface.
  4. Turn the steam knob to release steam. Move the jug up and down to create foam.
  5. Once desired foam is achieved, turn off the steam knob and remove the jug.
  6. Immediately clean the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying.

4.4. Simultaneous Coffee Preparation

The BLACK+DECKER CEA1200G is designed to prepare two cups of coffee simultaneously when using ground coffee. Simply use the double filter basket in the portafilter, add enough ground coffee for two servings, and press the double coffee button. Ensure two cups are placed under the spouts.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffee maker.

5.1. Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under running water.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray and grid daily. Wash with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Periodically, remove the tip of the steam wand and clean any blockages.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

5.2. Descaling

Mineral deposits from water can build up in the machine over time, affecting performance. Descale your coffee maker every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (or use a mixture of white vinegar and water).
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the coffee outlet and steam wand.
  4. Run several brewing cycles and steam cycles until the water tank is empty.
  5. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  6. Run several cycles with fresh water to flush out any remaining descaling solution.

5.3. Storage

If the coffee maker will not be used for an extended period, ensure it is clean and dry. Store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

6. Troubleshooting
