4. Operating the Speed Cube

The GAN 16 Maglev Max is designed for speedcubing. Its advanced features contribute to a fluid and precise solving experience.

4.1 Magnetic Power and Self-Alignment

The cube features 24 center magnets and 24 edge-foot magnets, providing a strong positioning force. This magnetic system, combined with 40° magnetic-enabled self-aligning capabilities, ensures that turns are smooth, swift, and accurate, reducing overshoots and misalignments.

4.2 Stability and Control

The Omni-Support Structure, ultra-hollow design, and flexible space within the cube work together to minimize friction and prevent catches. This design ensures stable performance even during rapid solves.

  • Omni-Support Structure: Features frisbee-shaped center pieces for omni-directional stability and honeycomb contact, reducing deformation and friction. Triple-tracked edge pieces with a hollow design and three rows of petals effectively cut friction and noise.
  • Ultra Hollow Design: The hollow honeycomb design of the center piece, triple-tracked edge piece, and hollow corner piece provide double the support with half the friction.
  • Flexible Space: Engineered flexible spaces between edge and center pieces, and corner and center pieces, prevent catches during turns.

5. Tuning and Customization

The GAN 16 Maglev Max offers extensive customization options to tailor the cube's feel to your preference.

5.1 Numerical Tensioning System

The numerical tensioning system provides 72 easy-to-adjust combinations, allowing you to fine-tune the cube's compression and center travel.

  • Magnetic Tension: 12 levels of magnetic tension adjustment.
  • Center Piece Travel: 6 levels of center piece travel adjustment.

Use the included tuning tools to make these adjustments. Refer to the markings on the cube's core for current settings.

5.2 Full Freedom Magnet Tuning

Customize the magnetic feel at each corner and edge using the provided corner-foot magnet rods.

  • Edge-foot Magnet Rods: Allow for detachable magnet repulsion force.
  • Corner-foot Magnet Rods: Offer three notches for adjusting magnet strength (Weak, Medium, Strong).

Experiment with different magnet strengths to find the optimal balance of stability and speed for your turning style.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your GAN 16 Maglev Max Speed Cube.

6.1 Cleaning

Regularly wipe the exterior of the cube with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For internal cleaning, carefully disassemble the cube (refer to online tutorials if needed) and use a soft brush or compressed air to remove any debris from the core and pieces.

6.2 Lubrication

While the cube's design minimizes friction, light lubrication can further enhance smoothness. Use a specialized speed cube lubricant. Apply a small amount to the contact surfaces of the pieces and turn the cube to distribute it evenly. Avoid over-lubricating, as this can make the cube feel sluggish.

6.3 Storage

Store the cube in its GAN Box or the provided cube bag when not in use to protect it from dust, dirt, and potential damage.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your GAN 16 Maglev Max, consider the following:

  • Cube feels too loose or too tight: Adjust the numerical tensioning system (Section 5.1) to your preferred setting.
  • Cube feels sluggish or sticky: Apply a small amount of speed cube lubricant (Section 6.2). Ensure the cube is clean and free of debris.
  • Pieces pop out: This can occur if the tension is too loose. Tighten the numerical tension settings. Ensure all pieces are correctly seated.
  • Magnets feel too weak or too strong: Adjust the corner-foot magnet rods (Section 5.2) to change the magnetic strength.
  • Unusual noises during turns: Check for any debris inside the cube. Ensure pieces are properly aligned and lubricated.

For further assistance, refer to online speedcubing resources or contact GAN customer support.
