  • WARNING: Never use this gate at the top of stairs without using the hardware mounting option.
  • This product is intended for use with children from 6 to 24 months of age.
  • Never leave children unattended.
  • Regularly check all parts for proper tightness and function. Do not use if any components are missing or damaged.
  • Do not cut off the zip tie on the gate before installation is complete. The initial gap between the lock and the frame is normal and will close upon proper installation.

Setup and Installation

1. Measure Your Opening

Before installation, accurately measure the width of your doorway, hallway, or stair opening. Select the appropriate extensions to fit the opening. The gate is designed to fit openings from 29.7 inches to 51.5 inches with included extensions.

2. Attach Extensions and Tension Bolts

Attach the selected extensions to the main gate. Insert the tension bolts into the corners of the gate and extensions. Do not tighten them fully at this stage.

3. Initial Gap Explanation

It is normal to observe a gap between the gate's locking mechanism and the main frame before installation is complete. This gap will disappear as the tension bolts are tightened, securing the gate in place.

4. Choose Mounting Method: Pressure or Hardware

The Cumbor gate offers two installation methods:

  • Pressure Mounted: Ideal for doorways and hallways. This method is wall-friendly and withstands up to 150N of pulling force. Use the sticky pads with wall cups for this method.
  • Hardware Mounted: Recommended for the top of stairs or areas requiring extra security. This method provides superior stability, supporting up to 210N of pulling force. Use the provided screws and wall anchors with wall cups.

5. Detailed Installation Steps

Follow these steps for your chosen mounting method:

  1. Place the gate in the desired opening.
  2. Mark the position for the wall cups.
  3. For Pressure Mount: Remove the backing from the sticky pads and attach them to the wall cups. Place the wall cups at the marked positions.
  4. For Hardware Mount: Drill pilot holes at the marked positions, insert wall anchors, and secure the wall cups with screws.
  5. Insert the gate into the ramp groove if using the anti-trip pedal.
  6. Tighten the tension bolts evenly until the gate is secure and the gap between the lock and frame is approximately 1/16 inch. Ensure the gate is level and stable.
  7. For stair banisters, use the Y-tension bolts and Up Cups as needed.

Operating Instructions

1. Opening the Gate (One-Handed Operation)

To open the gate, press the button on the upper lock, lift the gate handle, and then swing the gate open. This design allows for convenient one-handed operation, ideal when carrying a child or multitasking.

2. Double Lock Mechanism

The gate features a dual-lock mechanism (upper and bottom locks) for enhanced security, preventing unintended openings by children or pets.

3. Auto-Close and Dual Direction Opening

The gate door swings both ways for flexible entry. It automatically closes when opened at an angle less than 90 degrees. If opened to 90 degrees or more, it will stay open for hands-free passage.

4. Easy Walk-Thru Pedal

The accessible pedal allows for smooth passage of strollers or pet beds through the gate's 22.3-inch walk-through width, making it convenient for busy families.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the gate regularly with a mild soap and damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all parts, including tension bolts, wall cups, and locking mechanisms, to ensure they are secure and functioning correctly. Tighten any loose bolts.
  • Storage: If storing the gate, ensure it is clean and dry. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

1. Gate Not Closing Properly / Gap Remains

If the gate does not close smoothly or a significant gap remains after initial installation, the tension bolts may be too loose or too tight. Adjust the tension bolts evenly on all four corners until the gate closes securely and the gap is minimal (approximately 1/16 inch).

Video 2: Cumbor Baby Gate Fix - Tension Bolts Too Loose. This video demonstrates how to adjust tension bolts if they are too loose.

Video 3: Cumbor Baby Gate Fix - Tension Bolts Too Tight. This video demonstrates how to adjust tension bolts if they are too tight.

2. Gate Feels Unstable

Ensure all four tension bolts are tightened evenly and securely against the wall or banister. If using the pressure mount, confirm the wall cups are firmly attached. For hardware mount, verify screws and anchors are properly installed. If instability persists, consider switching to hardware mounting for increased security, especially at the top of stairs.
