2. Important Safety Information
WARNING: Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, or maintenance can cause property damage, injury, or death. Read all instructions thoroughly before installation or use. This appliance must be installed by a qualified professional (electrician and plumber) in accordance with all local electrical and plumbing codes.
- Electrical Safety: The unit requires a dedicated 120V/30A circuit. A customer review highlighted a potential discrepancy regarding wiring. For a 3.5kW 120V unit, a 30A breaker typically requires 10 AWG wire. If a 40A breaker is used, 8 AWG wire is necessary. Ensure the electrical connection is a 120V circuit with one hot, one neutral, and one ground wire. Consult a qualified electrician to verify correct wiring and breaker sizing for your specific installation to prevent fire hazards and ensure safe operation.
- Water Pressure: Ensure water pressure is within the recommended range for optimal performance and to prevent damage.
- Leak Prevention: Regularly inspect for leaks. The unit features built-in leak detection.
- Overheating Protection: The unit includes overheating protection to prevent scalding.
- Isolated Systems: Fully isolated water and electrical systems enhance safety.
- Temperature Range: The adjustable temperature range is 80°F–113°F. Do not exceed recommended temperatures.

5. Installation
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician and plumber. Ensure all local codes are followed.
5.1 Site Selection
- Install the unit vertically in a location protected from freezing temperatures.
- Choose a location close to the point of use to minimize heat loss and maximize efficiency.
- Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for maintenance and ventilation.
- The compact size makes it suitable for under-sink or cabinet installation.
5.2 Plumbing Connection
- Connect the water inlet and outlet using 1/2" NPT connections.
- Ensure all connections are watertight to prevent leaks.
- Install a shut-off valve on the cold water inlet line for maintenance.
- Flush the system thoroughly before connecting the electrical supply to remove any debris.
5.3 Electrical Connection
- The unit requires a dedicated 120V/30A circuit.
- Use 10 AWG wire for a 30A breaker. If a 40A breaker is used, 8 AWG wire is required.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your water heater.
- Exterior Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inlet Filter: Periodically check and clean the inlet water filter to prevent sediment buildup. Turn off the water supply and power before cleaning.
- Descaling: While tankless heaters are less prone to scale buildup than tank heaters, in areas with hard water, periodic descaling may be necessary. Consult a qualified plumber for descaling procedures.
- Leak Inspection: Regularly inspect all plumbing connections for any signs of leaks.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, refer to the following table before contacting customer service.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No hot water / Unit not turning on | No power, circuit breaker tripped, water flow too low | Check circuit breaker, ensure unit is plugged in, verify adequate water flow. |
| Insufficient hot water temperature | Temperature setting too low, high inlet water temperature, excessive flow rate | Increase temperature setting, reduce water flow, refer to sizing chart for performance limits. |
| Water leaks | Loose connections, damaged seals | Tighten plumbing connections, inspect and replace seals if necessary. If leak persists, contact support. |
| Error code on display | Internal fault, sensor issue | Note the error code and contact MIZUDO customer service for assistance. |
