4. Setup and Assembly

Before first use, sterilize all parts that come into contact with breast milk (breast shields, valves, bottles, flange inserts) according to the cleaning instructions.

  1. Clean and Sterilize: Wash all components that contact breast milk with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and sterilize. Ensure they are completely dry.
  2. Assemble the Breast Shield: Insert the valve into the bottom of the breast shield. If using a smaller flange size, insert the appropriate flange insert (15mm, 17mm, 19mm, or 21mm) into the 25mm breast shield.
  3. Attach the Milk Collection Bottle: Screw the milk collection bottle onto the bottom of the breast shield assembly.
  4. Connect Tubing: Attach one end of the tubing to the breast shield connector and the other end to the pump motor unit. If using two pumps, connect both tubes to the Y-connector, then to the pump motor unit.
  5. Charge the Pump: Connect the power cable to the pump motor unit and a suitable USB power source. The battery indicator will show charging status.

5. Operating Instructions

The HORIGEN D6 offers 3 modes and 9 suction levels for personalized expression.

  1. Positioning: Place the assembled breast shield firmly against your breast, ensuring your nipple is centered in the flange tunnel.
  2. Power On: Press and hold the power button on the pump motor unit to turn it on.
  3. Select Mode:
    • Stimulation Mode: Initiates with fast and shallow suction to stimulate milk let-down.
    • Expression Mode: Switches to a slower, deeper rhythm for efficient milk expression.
    • Mixed Mode: Combines stimulation and expression rhythms for optimal comfort and milk flow.
    Press the mode button to cycle through the available modes.
  4. Adjust Suction Level: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to increase or decrease the suction intensity (levels 1-9). Start with a low level and gradually increase to a comfortable, effective setting.
  5. Pumping Duration: Pump for approximately 15-20 minutes per breast, or until milk flow significantly slows.
  6. Power Off: Press and hold the power button to turn off the pump.
  7. Disassemble: Carefully remove the breast pump from your breast. Disassemble all parts for cleaning.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for hygiene and the longevity of your breast pump.

6.1. After Each Use

  1. Disassemble: Separate all parts that come into contact with breast milk (breast shields, flange inserts, valves, bottles).
  2. Wash: Wash these parts immediately in warm soapy water. Use a soft brush for thorough cleaning.
  3. Rinse: Rinse thoroughly under clean running water.
  4. Dry: Air dry on a clean rack or use a clean cloth. Ensure all parts are completely dry before storage or next use to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

6.2. Sterilization

Sterilize parts that come into contact with breast milk at least once a day, or as recommended by your healthcare provider. Methods include:

  • Boiling in water for 5 minutes.
  • Using a steam sterilizer.
  • Using a dishwasher with a sanitizing cycle (if parts are dishwasher safe).

Do NOT wash or sterilize the pump motor unit or tubing. Wipe the motor unit with a clean, damp cloth.

7. Troubleshooting
