1. Product Overview

The LANCHEZ 18in Sand Filter Pump is designed for efficient and reliable filtration of above-ground pools. Featuring a powerful 1.5HP pump, a 6-way multi-port valve, and a programmable timer, this system ensures crystal-clear water with minimal effort. It is suitable for pools up to 20,000 gallons.

Please read this manual thoroughly before installation, operation, or maintenance. Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury or property damage.

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Site Selection

Choose a location for the filter system that is level, well-drained, and as close to the pool as possible to minimize friction loss from plumbing. Ensure adequate ventilation and protection from direct sunlight and harsh weather.

5.2 Assembly Steps

1. Place the filter tank base on the selected level surface.
2. Carefully place the filter tank onto the base.
3. Insert the filter assembly (laterals) into the tank, ensuring they are properly seated at the bottom.
4. Fill the filter tank with the appropriate amount of filter sand (150 lbs) or filter balls (6.2 lbs). Ensure the standpipe is centered during this process.
5. Attach the 6-way multi-port valve to the top of the filter tank, aligning it with the standpipe. Secure with the flange clamp.
6. Connect the pump to the filter tank using the provided plumbing. Ensure all connections are tight and sealed with O-rings.
7. Connect the pool hoses to the pump's inlet and the valve's outlet. The pump inlet connects to the pool skimmer/main drain, and the valve outlet connects to the pool return jet.
8. Connect the waste port of the 6-way valve to a suitable waste line or area.

5.3 Priming the Pump

Before starting the pump for the first time, it is crucial to prime it to prevent damage from dry running.

1. Ensure the pool water level is adequate.
2. Open the pump's strainer basket lid.
3. Fill the strainer basket housing completely with water.
4. Replace the strainer basket lid securely.
5. Set the 6-way valve to the "FILTER" position.
6. Turn on the pump. It should begin to draw water and expel air. If it does not prime within a few minutes, turn it off, re-fill the basket, and try again.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 6-Way Multi-Port Valve Functions

The 6-way valve allows you to perform various operations for pool maintenance. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.

• 1. FILTER: Normal filtering operation. Water flows through the filter media and returns to the pool.
• 2. BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the filter media. Water is discharged through the waste port.
• 3. RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush dirty water from the valve and settle the filter media. Water is discharged through the waste port.
• 4. WASTE: Bypasses the filter and pumps water directly out of the pool through the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
• 5. CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Never use while the pump is running.
• 6. RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.

6.2 Timer Operation

The built-in 24-hour programmable timer allows for automated filtration cycles, saving energy and maintaining optimal water circulation.

1. Set Running Hours: Use the control panel buttons to set the desired daily operating hours.
2. Activate Timer: Once set, the time you activate the timer becomes the daily start time for the filtration cycle.
3. 24-Hour Mode: For continuous filtration, select the 24-hour mode if available on your model.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Strainer Basket Cleaning

The pump features an integrated pre-filter with a large, detachable strainer basket to capture coarse debris like hair, leaves, and gravel before it reaches the pump impeller. Regularly inspect and clean this basket.

1. Turn off the pump and disconnect power.
2. Close any necessary valves to prevent water flow from the pool.
3. Unscrew the clear lid of the strainer basket housing.
4. Remove the basket and empty any collected debris.
5. Rinse the basket thoroughly with water.
6. Inspect the O-ring on the lid for cracks or wear; replace if necessary.
7. Place the clean basket back into the housing and securely fasten the lid.
8. Reopen valves and restore power to the pump.

7.2 Backwashing and Rinsing

Backwashing cleans the filter media by reversing water flow. Rinse is performed after backwashing to settle the media.

1. Turn off the pump.
2. Set the 6-way valve to the "BACKWASH" position.
3. Turn on the pump. Observe the sight glass (if present) or the waste discharge. Continue backwashing until the water runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
4. Turn off the pump.
5. Set the 6-way valve to the "RINSE" position.
6. Turn on the pump. Rinse for 30-60 seconds to settle the filter media.
7. Turn off the pump.
8. Set the 6-way valve back to the "FILTER" position.
9. Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.

7.3 Winterization

For regions with freezing temperatures, properly winterize your filter system to prevent damage:

• Drain all water from the pump, filter, and plumbing lines.
• Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the filter tank.
• Remove the pump's drain plugs.
• Store the pump and valve in a dry, frost-free location.
• Cover the filter tank to protect it from elements.
