4. Setup Guide

4.1 Connecting the Drive

  1. Locate the integrated USB 3.0 Type-A and Type-C data cable on the back of the drive.
  2. Plug the appropriate connector (USB-A or USB-C) into an available port on your computer (MacBook, Laptop, Desktop PC).

4.2 Using the Extra Power Supply Cable

If your computer's USB port does not provide sufficient power, the drive may not operate correctly. In such cases, use the included USB A to Mini USB Power Supply Cable:

  1. Connect the Mini USB end of the power supply cable to the dedicated power input port on the drive.
  2. Connect the USB-A end of the power supply cable to a 5V charger or power bank (not included).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Inserting and Ejecting Discs

  1. Press the pop-up button on the front of the drive to open the disc tray.
  2. Carefully place your CD or DVD onto the tray, ensuring it is centered.
  3. Gently push the tray back into the drive until it clicks into place.
  4. To eject a disc, press the pop-up button again.

Note for Mac OS Users: Due to limitations of Mac OS, the tray cannot be opened by the button after playing or burning a disc. To eject a disc on a Mac, right-click the desktop icon and select Eject, or go to File > Eject from the menu.

5.2 Playing and Burning Discs

While the drive is Plug & Play, software is still required to play or burn discs. Ensure you have appropriate media player or burning software installed on your computer.

  • For playing DVDs, install a compatible DVD player software (e.g., VLC Media Player).
  • For burning CDs/DVDs, use disc burning software (e.g., Nero, CDBurnerXP).
  • For Windows 11, a media player and network connection may be required for certain functions.

8. Troubleshooting Tips

  • Drive Not Recognized: Ensure the USB data cable (Type-A or Type-C) is securely plugged into your computer. If using a desktop, try a different USB port, preferably a rear port for better power delivery.
  • Insufficient Power: If the drive is not functioning stably or is not recognized, connect the extra USB A to Mini USB Power Supply Cable to a 5V power source (e.g., wall adapter, power bank).
  • Disc Ejection (Mac OS): Remember that on Mac OS, the physical eject button may not work after media is loaded. Use the software eject option (right-click desktop icon > Eject, or File > Eject).
  • Cannot Play/Burn Discs: Verify that you have compatible media player software (for playback) or disc burning software (for burning) installed on your computer. Plug & Play refers to driver installation, not software functionality.
  • Disc Not Reading: Check if the disc is clean and free from scratches. Ensure the disc type is supported by the drive (CD±R/RW, DVD±R/RW, etc.).
  • Region Code Mismatch: If a DVD is not playing, check if its region code matches the drive's current setting. You can usually change the drive's region code a limited number of times through your operating system settings.

9. Maintenance

  • Keep the drive in its carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust and scratches.
  • Clean the exterior of the drive with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners.
  • Do not attempt to open the drive casing, as this may void the warranty and cause damage.
  • Handle discs carefully to prevent scratches, which can affect playback and burning quality.
