3. Setup and Installation
Some assembly of the mantel and fireplace insert is required. It is recommended to have two people for assembly due to the weight and size of the unit. Ensure you have all included components before beginning.
Site Selection:
- Choose a location with adequate clearances from combustible materials as specified in the full installation manual (not provided here, refer to manufacturer's detailed guide).
- Ensure the floor is level and capable of supporting the fireplace's weight (approximately 130 lbs).
- Avoid areas with excessive drafts or near frequently opened doors/windows.
Assembly Steps (General):
- Carefully unpack all components and inspect for any damage.
- Assemble the wood mantel according to the separate mantel assembly instructions provided with the hardware pack.
- Install the vent-free fireplace insert into the assembled mantel opening. Secure it using the provided hardware.
- Connect the fireplace insert to a Liquid Propane (LP) gas supply line. This connection must be performed by a qualified gas technician in accordance with local codes and regulations. Ensure all gas connections are leak-tested before operation.
- Install the included AAA battery into the battery-assisted Piezo ignition system. Refer to the specific location indicated on the fireplace insert.
- Carefully place the 5 ceramic fiber logs onto the burner grate. Arrange them to create a natural flame appearance without obstructing the burner ports or pilot light. Refer to the log placement diagram in the full manual for optimal setup.

4. Operating Instructions
Before operating, ensure all safety checks have been performed and gas connections are secure.
Starting the Fireplace:
- Ensure the main gas supply valve to the fireplace is open.
- Locate the control knob on the fireplace insert. Turn it to the 'PILOT' position.
- Press and hold the control knob in while simultaneously pressing the Piezo igniter button repeatedly until the pilot flame ignites. You should see a small flame at the pilot assembly.
- Continue to hold the control knob in for approximately 30-60 seconds after the pilot ignites to allow the thermocouple to heat up and hold the pilot flame. Release the knob slowly. If the pilot goes out, repeat steps 2-4.
- Once the pilot is established, turn the control knob from 'PILOT' to the desired 'ON' or 'THERMOSTAT' setting. The main burner will ignite.
Thermostat Control:
The DFS-300LT-3GR features a thermostatic control. Once the main burner is on, you can set the desired room temperature. The system will automatically cycle the burner on and off to maintain this temperature, providing efficient heating.
Using the Remote Control:
The fireplace system includes a remote control for convenient operation. This remote allows you to turn the unit ON/OFF and adjust the thermostat settings. Ensure the remote has a working battery.
- ON/OFF: Press the 'ON' button to activate the main burner (after pilot is lit). Press 'OFF' to turn off the main burner. The pilot light will remain lit.
- MODE: Use the 'MODE' button to switch between temperature display (Fahrenheit/Celsius) or other settings if available.
- SET: Use the 'SET' button and arrow keys (if present) to adjust the desired temperature.

- For complete shutdown, turn the control knob to the 'OFF' position. This will extinguish the pilot light.
- If the fireplace will not be used for an extended period, turn off the main gas supply valve.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures safe and efficient operation of your fireplace system.
Annual Inspection (Recommended by a Qualified Technician):
- Inspect the gas lines and connections for leaks or damage.
- Check the burner and pilot assembly for blockages or debris.
- Verify the proper operation of the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (O.D.S.).
- Inspect the ceramic logs for cracks or deterioration. Replace if necessary.
User Maintenance:
- Cleaning: Ensure the fireplace is completely cool before cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the mantel and exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Log Cleaning: Gently brush off any dust or lint from the ceramic logs when the unit is cool. Handle logs carefully as they are fragile.
- Air Openings: Keep the air openings around the fireplace clear of dust, lint, and obstructions to ensure proper combustion and ventilation.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the AAA battery in the ignition system and remote control annually or when performance degrades.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your fireplace, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps. For persistent problems, contact a qualified service technician.
- No Pilot Light:
- Ensure the main gas supply valve is open.
- Check if the control knob is fully pressed in during ignition and held long enough.
- Verify the AAA battery in the igniter is fresh and correctly installed.
- Check for obstructions in the pilot opening.
- Main Burner Does Not Ignite:
- Ensure the pilot light is lit and stable.
- Confirm the control knob is turned to an 'ON' or 'THERMOSTAT' position.
- Check for low gas pressure or an empty LP tank.
- Fireplace Shuts Off Unexpectedly:
- This is often due to the Oxygen Depletion Sensor (O.D.S.) activating. Ensure adequate ventilation in the room. Open a window slightly if necessary.
- Check for obstructions around the fireplace that might block airflow.
- Allow the unit to cool down before attempting to restart.
- Poor Flame Appearance:
- Verify that the ceramic logs are correctly positioned and not obstructing burner ports.
- Check for dust or debris on the burner ports.
