4. Setup
4.1 Adding Engine Oil
Before first use, add the recommended engine oil. The generator is shipped without oil.
- Remove the side panel covering the oil fill port using a screwdriver.
- Remove the oil dipstick/cap.
- Using the provided oil funnel, slowly add 4-stroke oil SJ 10W-40 (or SAE 10W-30 APISJ or higher) until the oil level is within the safe operating range on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
- Verify the oil level often during the filling process to ensure it is within the safety operation range (between the lowest and highest marks on the dipstick).
- Replace the oil dipstick/cap and secure the side panel.

Video 4.1.1: This video demonstrates the steps for adding engine oil to the Aceup Energy AI4000Ds generator, including removing the access panel, filling oil, and checking the oil level with the dipstick.
4.2 Adding Fuel (Gasoline)
Use only fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Do not use E85 or any gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol.
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and the engine is off and cool.
- Unscrew the fuel cap.
- Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, ensuring not to exceed the maximum fuel level indicator.
- Securely replace the fuel cap.
4.3 Connecting Fuel (Propane/LPG)
For propane operation, connect the provided LPG hose to a propane cylinder.
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and the engine is off and cool.
- Connect the LPG gas hose to the propane fuel source (cylinder).
- Connect the other end of the LPG hose to the propane inlet on the generator's control panel. Press firmly to ensure a secure connection.
- Fully open the propane/LPG cylinder knob.

5. Operation
Important Note: All generator operations must be conducted outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Never operate indoors.
5.1 Starting the Generator
- Ensure the generator has sufficient oil and fuel (gasoline or propane).
- If using gasoline, ensure the fuel valve is open. If using propane, ensure the propane cylinder valve is fully open.
- Switch the Economy switch to the "OFF" position.
- Rotate the 5-in-1 integrated knob to the "CHOKE" position.
- Pull the recoil starter slowly until increased resistance is felt, then pull rapidly up and away. Repeat if necessary until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, slowly rotate the integrated knob from "CHOKE" to "ON".

5.2 Connecting Electrical Appliances
After the generator starts and runs smoothly, you can connect your electrical appliances.
- Ensure the appliance is turned off before connecting it to the generator.
- Plug the appliance into one of the available outlets (120V 20A, 30A RV receptacle, or DC 12V 8.3A car charger outlet).
- Use only grounded extension cords.
- Turn on the appliance.

5.3 Eco Mode
The Eco Mode helps save fuel and reduce noise levels by adjusting engine speed to match the load. To activate, switch the Economy switch to the "ON" position. For full power or starting high-load appliances, switch to "OFF".
5.4 Parallel Operation
The AI4000Ds is parallel ready. You can connect two generators for twice the power using a parallel kit (sold separately).
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your generator.
6.1 Checking the Spark Plug
Periodically inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling. A clean, properly gapped spark plug is essential for reliable starting and efficient engine operation.
- Open the spark plug cap access panel.
- Remove the ignition coil plug cap.
- Use the provided spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.
- Inspect the spark plug for carbon buildup or damage. Clean or replace as necessary.
- To check for spark, reinsert the terminal nut of the spark plug into the ignition coil and place the spark plug electrode against the OHV (Overhead Valve). Pull the recoil starter and observe for a spark.
- Reinstall the spark plug, ignition coil plug cap, and access panel.
Video 6.1.1: This video demonstrates how to check the spark plug, including removal, inspection, and testing for spark, as well as checking the carburetor for obstructions.
6.2 Checking Carburetor for Obstructions
Ensure the carburetor is unobstructed to allow proper fuel flow.
- Locate the carburetor and its drain hose.
- Place a container under the carburetor drain hose.
- Loosen the carburetor drain bolt to allow fuel to flow out. If fuel flows out, it indicates gasoline has reached the carburetor.
- Tighten the drain bolt after checking.
Note: Residual fuel needs to be discharged if the generator is stored for 30 days or longer to prevent fuel degradation and carburetor issues.
6.3 Oil Change Schedule
Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Refer to the "Adding Engine Oil" section for the correct oil type and filling procedure.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your generator.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel, low oil, spark plug issue, choke setting incorrect. | Check fuel level, add oil, inspect/clean spark plug (Section 6.1), adjust choke (Section 5.1). |
| No power output | Overload, circuit breaker tripped, Eco Mode engaged with high load. | Reduce load, reset circuit breakers, turn Eco Mode off for high loads. |
| Generator runs rough or stalls | Stale fuel, clogged carburetor, dirty air filter. | Drain old fuel and add fresh, check carburetor (Section 6.2), clean/replace air filter. |
| Generator arrived with oil residue | Factory functional testing. | This is normal and does not affect use. Clean any residue. |
