5.2 Attaching the Pin Probe (Optional)

For pin-mode measurements, connect the external pin probe to the designated port on the side of the meter. Ensure a secure connection.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the Power button to turn the device on.
  • The device will perform a self-calibration upon startup, adjusting to ambient humidity.
  • To turn off, press and hold the Power button, or the device will automatically shut down after 30 minutes of inactivity.

6.2 Selecting Measurement Mode (Pinless vs. Pin)

The meter offers two distinct measurement modes:

Proster Moisture Meter showing both spherical (pinless) and pin probe modes

Image: A split image demonstrating the two measurement modes of the Proster moisture meter. On the left, the spherical probe is shown measuring a wall, indicating no surface damage and relative humidity readings. On the right, the pin probe is shown inserted into wood, providing accurate absolute moisture content.

  • Spherical Probe (Pinless) Mode:
    • For quick, non-invasive detection of humidity distribution within materials.
    • Sensing depth: Up to 40mm.
    • Reading type: 0-100% Relative Humidity (REL).
    • Ideal for walls, ceilings, floors, and general scanning without surface damage.
    • Simply place the spherical probe flat against the surface to be measured.
  • Pin Probe Mode:
    • For accurate absolute moisture content measurements.
    • Electrode length: 10mm.
    • Wood range: 5% to 52%.
    • Building material range: 2% to 30%.
    • Insert the pins firmly into the material to be measured.

The meter automatically detects which probe is active. If the external pin probe is connected, it will prioritize pin mode.

6.3 Understanding the Display and Alarms

The LCD provides numerical readings, a 3-color bar graph, and various icons to indicate moisture levels and device status.

Image: A detailed view of the moisture meter's LCD screen, highlighting the digital moisture percentage, the 3-color bar graph (green for dry, yellow for risk, red for wet), and icons for auto power-off, sound, battery level, and data hold. This visual aid helps users quickly interpret moisture levels.

  • Numerical Display: Shows the exact moisture percentage or relative humidity.
  • 3-Color Bar Graph:
    • Green: Indicates a dry condition.
    • Yellow: Indicates a risk or moderate moisture level.
    • Red: Indicates a wet condition, suggesting potential issues.
  • Sound Buzzer Alarm: The device emits an audible alert when moisture levels exceed customizable thresholds. This can be toggled on/off.
  • Customizable Alarm Thresholds: Set specific moisture percentage limits for wood, gypsum, and cement materials. Refer to the table below for general guidelines.

6.4 Material Compatibility and Moisture Levels

The meter is compatible with a wide range of materials. The following tables provide general guidelines for moisture levels in different materials for both measurement modes.
