Assembly Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your metal detector. The process is designed for quick and tool-free setup.

Video: A user demonstrates the unboxing and assembly process of a metal detector. While the specific model shown may vary slightly, the general assembly steps are applicable.

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Connect the 10-inch search coil to the lower stem using the provided non-metallic bolt and knob. Ensure it is securely fastened but do not overtighten.
  2. Connect Stem Sections: Insert the lower stem into the middle stem, and then connect the middle stem to the upper stem (which includes the control box and armrest). Use the spring clips or locking collars to secure the sections at your desired length.
  3. Adjust Armrest: Position the armrest for comfortable use, ensuring your forearm rests securely.
  4. Wrap Cable: Carefully wrap the search coil cable around the stem, ensuring it is snug but not overly tight, to prevent tangling and false signals. Secure the cable with any provided clips.
  5. Connect Cable to Control Box: Plug the search coil cable connector into the corresponding port on the control box.

Battery Installation

The ETOOLAB MD10 requires 2 alkaline 9V batteries (included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the control box.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals match).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Powering On/Off

  • To power on, press and hold the POWER button (usually marked with a power symbol) until the LCD screen illuminates.
  • To power off, press and hold the POWER button again until the screen turns off.

LCD Display and Controls

The LCD display provides visual feedback on detected targets, depth, and current settings. Use the control buttons to navigate and adjust settings.

  • Target ID Cursor: Indicates the probable type of metal detected.
  • Digital ID Cursor/P-P Cursor: Provides a numerical identification for the target.
  • Coin Depth Cursor: Estimates the depth of the detected object.
  • Sens (Sensitivity) Key: Adjusts the detector's sensitivity (5 levels). Higher sensitivity increases detection depth but may also pick up more interference.
  • Vol (Volume) Key: Adjusts the audio volume (3 levels) of the detection signals.
  • Mode Key: Cycles through the 5 detection modes.
  • PP (Pinpoint) Key: Activates Pinpoint Mode for precise target location.

Detection Modes

The ETOOLAB MD10 features 5 specialized detection modes to optimize your search for different types of metals.

Image: Visual representation of the five distinct search modes: All Metal, Notch, Jewelry, Memory, and PP Mode, with icons indicating their functions.

  • All Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal without discrimination. Ideal for finding any metallic object.
  • Notch Mode: Allows you to eliminate unwanted target categories (e.g., iron, nickel, zinc) to focus on specific metals.
  • Jewelry Mode: Achieved via Notch Mode, this setting excludes common trash metals to specifically target jewelry.
  • Memory Mode: Detects only the memorized metal target, ignoring all other types. Useful for repeatedly searching for a specific item.
  • PP Mode (Pinpoint Mode): Enables you to pinpoint the exact location of a detected target for easier recovery.

Using the Search Coil

Sweep the search coil slowly and steadily from side to side, keeping it parallel to the ground and approximately 1-2 inches above the surface. Overlap each sweep by about half the coil's diameter to ensure thorough coverage.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the detector with a damp cloth after each use. Avoid harsh chemicals. The search coil can be rinsed with fresh water due to its IP68 rating, but ensure the control box remains dry.
  • Storage: Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. The included backpack is ideal for protected storage.
  • Waterproof Coil: The 10-inch search coil is IP68 waterproof, allowing for use in shallow water. However, the LCD control unit is NOT waterproof and must be kept dry.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure batteries are correctly installed and fully charged. Replace if necessary.
  • False Signals: Check that the search coil cable is securely wrapped and connected. Lower sensitivity in highly mineralized soil or areas with electrical interference. Avoid sweeping near large metal objects or power lines.
  • No Detection: Verify the detector is powered on and the search coil is properly connected. Ensure the sensitivity is set appropriately for your search environment.
  • Inaccurate Target ID/Depth: Sweep slowly and consistently. Ensure the coil is parallel to the ground. Practice with known targets to improve accuracy.
