Setup and Installation

1. Choosing a Location

The hykolity Solar Powered Shop Light features a split design, allowing the solar panel and light fixture to be installed separately. This provides flexibility for both indoor and outdoor applications such as sheds, garages, carports, balconies, or patios.

  • For the Solar Panel: Select a location that receives direct sunlight for at least 6-8 hours daily to ensure optimal charging. Avoid shaded areas.
  • For the Light Fixture: Choose a location where illumination is desired. The 15-foot (4.5M) connection wire allows for considerable distance between the solar panel and the light.

2. Mounting the Solar Panel

Use the provided screws and anchors to securely mount the solar panel in your chosen sunny location. Adjust the angle of the solar panel to face the sun for maximum exposure.

3. Mounting the Light Fixture

The light fixture can be installed using either suspending mounting (hanging by chains) or ceiling/wall mounting (flush against a surface). Refer to the diagrams below for guidance.

  • Suspending Mounting: Attach the provided chains to the designated points on the light fixture and hang it from a secure overhead structure.
  • Ceiling/Wall Mounting: Use the provided screws and anchors to fix the light fixture directly to a ceiling or wall surface.

4. Connecting the Components

Connect the cable from the solar panel to the input port on the light fixture. Ensure the connection is firm and secure. The waterproof design of the wire ensures durability in outdoor conditions.

Operating Instructions

1. Initial Activation

Once installed and connected, the light will automatically begin charging during daylight hours. The integrated motion sensor will activate the light when ambient light levels drop below 20 Lux (dusk/nighttime) and motion is detected.

2. Motion Sensor Functionality

The light is equipped with a smart motion sensor to conserve energy. It will turn on automatically when motion is detected within its range and the environment is dark enough. The sensor can detect motion up to 8 feet away when the light is mounted at a height of 10 feet. The light can operate continuously for up to 6 hours on a full charge.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your solar light.

  • Clean the Solar Panel: Periodically wipe the solar panel surface with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or debris. A clean panel ensures efficient sunlight absorption.
  • Check Connections: Occasionally inspect all wire connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion, especially in outdoor environments.
  • Weather Resistance: The light is designed to be waterproof (IP65), frost-resistant, and heat-resistant, making it suitable for various weather conditions. However, extreme weather may temporarily affect performance.
Three images demonstrating the product's weather resistance: frost resistance in a snowy environment, heat resistance under a sunny sky, and waterproof IP65 rating in a rainy garage setting.

Troubleshooting Guide

If you encounter issues with your solar light, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Light does not turn on at night.
  • Insufficient solar panel charge.
  • Solar panel is dirty or obstructed.
  • Ambient light is too high.
  • Loose connection.
  • Ensure solar panel receives direct sunlight for 6-8 hours.
  • Clean the solar panel surface.
  • Relocate the light or solar panel to a darker area.
  • Check all cable connections.
Light is dim or runs for a short duration.
  • Inadequate solar charging.
  • Battery capacity reduced due to cold weather.
  • Ensure maximum sun exposure for the solar panel.
  • Allow more time for charging. Performance may vary in extreme cold.
Motion sensor is not detecting movement.
  • Obstruction in sensor's field of view.
  • Light mounted too high or too low for optimal detection.
  • Clear any objects blocking the sensor.
  • Adjust mounting height or position to optimize detection range (recommended 10 ft height for 8 ft detection).
