4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper assembly and installation of your sand filter pump system.
- Positioning: Place the filter system on a firm, level surface, preferably concrete, and as close to the pool as possible. Ensure it is protected from direct weather exposure.
- Assemble Base: Attach the pump and filter tank to the base support according to the diagrams in the full manual.
- Fill Filter Tank:
- Ensure the internal standpipe and laterals are correctly positioned at the bottom of the tank.
- Add the specified amount of filter media (sand or filter balls). For this 13-inch model, it requires approximately 70 lbs of filter sand or 2.2 lbs of filter balls. A small amount of filter balls (0.44lb) is included.
- Cover the standpipe opening to prevent media from entering it.
- Attach Multi-Port Valve: Secure the 6-way valve to the top of the filter tank using the flange clamp. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated for a watertight seal.
- Connect Pump to Filter: Connect the pump's discharge port to the "PUMP" port on the multi-port valve.
- Connect to Pool:
- Connect the pool's skimmer/suction line to the pump's inlet.
- Connect the "RETURN" port on the multi-port valve to the pool's return line.
- Connect the "WASTE" port on the multi-port valve to a suitable backwash line or drain.
- Install Pressure Gauge: Screw the pressure gauge into the designated port on the multi-port valve.
- Prime the Pump: Before starting, ensure the pump is filled with water to prevent dry running. Open all necessary valves to allow water flow to the pump.
- Electrical Connection: Connect the pump to a properly grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage matches the pump's requirements (115 Volts).

5. Operating Instructions (6-Way Valve Functions)
The 6-way multi-port valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.
- 1. FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water flows through the sand bed, trapping debris, and returns to the pool. This is the primary operating mode.
- 2. BACKWASH: Used for cleaning the filter media. Water flow is reversed, flushing trapped debris out through the waste port. Perform when pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above starting pressure.
- 3. RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining dirt from the filter media and settle the sand bed. Water flows to the waste port.
- 4. WASTE: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly out the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste or lowering pool water level.
- 5. CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Never operate the pump with the valve in the CLOSED position.
- 6. RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your filter system.
- Backwashing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reading increases by 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure, or when water flow to the pool noticeably decreases.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the valve to "BACKWASH".
- Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass (if available) runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the valve to "RINSE".
- Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the valve back to "FILTER".
- Turn on the pump for normal operation.
- Strainer Basket Cleaning: The integrated pre-filter strainer basket should be checked and cleaned regularly, especially if there's a lot of debris in the pool.

- Winterization: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump, filter, and hoses. Store components in a dry, protected area.
