3. Setup
3.1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully remove the air rifle and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect all components for any signs of damage. Ensure all listed parts are present, including the 10-round magazines and any included tools.
3.2. Charging the Air Rifle (PCP)
The Barra 1100z is a Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) air rifle and requires an external air source (e.g., high-pressure hand pump, scuba tank, or compressor) to fill its air reservoir.
- Ensure the air rifle is unloaded and the safety is engaged.
- Locate the Foster quick disconnect fill port, typically found on the underside of the air tube (refer to Figure 2.7).
- Connect your high-pressure air source to the Foster quick disconnect.
- Slowly fill the reservoir to a maximum pressure of 3000 PSI. Monitor the pressure gauge (Figure 2.5) carefully. DO NOT OVERFILL.
- Once the desired pressure is reached, disconnect the air source.
3.3. Loading Pellets
The 1100z uses a 10-round rotary magazine.
- Remove the magazine from the breech by pulling the side lever back to its rearmost position.
- Load pellets into the magazine, ensuring they are seated correctly and flush with the magazine surface.
- Insert the loaded magazine back into the breech.
- Push the side lever forward to chamber the first pellet. The rifle is now cocked and ready to fire (with safety engaged).
3.4. Mounting Optics
The 1100z features an integrated scope rail machined from a single block of metal, providing a stable platform for mounting scopes or other optical accessories.
- Select appropriate scope rings that match your chosen optic and the rifle's rail type.
- Securely attach the scope rings to the rail, ensuring proper eye relief and alignment.
- Mount your scope onto the rings and tighten all screws according to the scope manufacturer's recommendations.
- Adjust the ambidextrous comb height on the stock to achieve perfect alignment with your scope for comfortable and consistent shooting.
3.5. Adjusting Hammer Spring and Trigger
The 1100z allows for customization of its performance:
- Hammer Spring: The hammer spring is adjustable to fine-tune power, noise, and shot count. Refer to online resources or experienced users for specific adjustment procedures, as this can significantly impact performance.
- Trigger: The trigger is adjustable for pull weight and creep. Adjustments should be made by a qualified individual or with extreme caution, ensuring the safety mechanism remains fully functional.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Cocking and Loading
To cock the rifle and chamber a pellet:
- Ensure the rifle is pointed in a safe direction.
- Pull the side lever fully to the rear. This cocks the hammer and allows the magazine to rotate.
- Push the side lever fully forward until it locks into place. This chambers a pellet from the magazine into the barrel. The rifle is now cocked and the safety should automatically engage (or be manually engaged).
4.2. Engaging/Disengaging Safety
The Barra 1100z features a manual safety. Familiarize yourself with its operation before shooting.
- To Engage Safety: Push the safety mechanism to the "SAFE" position. The rifle will not fire when the safety is engaged.
- To Disengage Safety: Push the safety mechanism to the "FIRE" position. Only disengage the safety when you are ready to shoot and your target is clear.
4.3. Firing Procedure
- Ensure you are in a safe shooting environment and wearing appropriate eye protection.
- Point the air rifle at your intended target.
- Disengage the safety.
- Place your finger on the trigger and slowly squeeze until the rifle fires.
- After firing, immediately engage the safety if you are not taking another shot.
4.4. Reloading
After firing all pellets in the magazine, the side lever will still cock the rifle but no pellet will be chambered. To reload:
- Ensure the safety is engaged.
- Pull the side lever fully to the rear.
- Remove the empty magazine.
- Load a fresh, filled magazine (refer to Section 3.3).
- Push the side lever fully forward to chamber the first pellet.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Barra 1100z air rifle.
5.1. Cleaning the Barrel
Regular barrel cleaning is crucial for maintaining accuracy.
- Use a cleaning rod with a patch that fits snugly through the barrel.
- Clean from the breech end whenever possible to avoid damaging the crown.
- Use airgun-specific cleaning solvents and oils. Avoid petroleum-based products, which can damage seals.
5.2. Lubrication
Periodically lubricate moving parts and O-rings to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear.
- Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the bolt and O-rings.
- Lubricate the side lever mechanism as needed.
- Do not over-lubricate, as excess lubricant can attract dirt and debris.
5.3. Storage
Store your air rifle in a safe, dry, and secure location, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Ensure the rifle is unloaded and the safety is engaged before storage.
- Store with some air pressure in the reservoir (e.g., 1000-1500 PSI) to maintain seal integrity, but not fully charged.
- Use a gun case or cabinet to prevent unauthorized access.
