5. Installation
5.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Ensure you have the necessary tools: screwdriver, wire strippers, electrical tape, voltage tester.
5.2 Wiring Instructions
This receptacle supports both side wire and back wire connections.

Image 5: Receptacle Wiring Options: Side Wire and Back Wire. This diagram illustrates two wiring methods: Side Wire (for 12AWG & 14AWG) and Back Wire (for 14AWG only), showing connections for brass (black/hot), silver (white/neutral), and green (green/ground) screws, along with break-off fins.
Side Wire Connection (12AWG & 14AWG)
- Strip approximately 5/8 inch (16mm) of insulation from the wire ends.
- Connect the black (hot) wire to the brass screw.
- Connect the white (neutral) wire to the silver screw.
- Connect the green (ground) wire to the green grounding screw.
- Tighten all screws firmly to ensure good contact.
Back Wire Connection (14AWG ONLY)
- Strip approximately 5/8 inch (16mm) of insulation from the wire ends.
- Insert the stripped end of the black (hot) wire into the back wire hole adjacent to the brass screw.
- Insert the stripped end of the white (neutral) wire into the back wire hole adjacent to the silver screw.
- Connect the green (ground) wire to the green grounding screw using the side wire method.
- Tighten the screws to secure the back-wired connections.
5.3 Mounting and Final Steps
- Carefully fold the wires into the electrical box.
- Secure the receptacle to the electrical box using the provided mounting screws.

- Test the receptacle to ensure proper function.
6. Operating Instructions
To use the receptacle, simply insert a compatible electrical plug into one of the two outlets. The Tamper Resistant (TR) feature may require a firm, even push to insert the plug, as the internal shutters need to be opened simultaneously by both prongs of the plug. Ensure the plug is fully seated for a secure connection.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the receptacle and wall plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure power is off before cleaning.
- Periodic Inspection: Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, loose connections, or discoloration. If any issues are found, turn off power and consult a qualified electrician.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power:
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to ensure power is on.
- Verify all wiring connections are secure (ensure power is off before checking).
- Plug Difficult to Insert:
- This is normal for Tamper Resistant (TR) receptacles. Apply firm, even pressure to insert the plug. Do not force it at an angle.
- Receptacle is Hot:
- Immediately disconnect any devices and turn off power. This could indicate an overload or a wiring issue. Consult a qualified electrician.
