AnyTone AT-V55 Portable HF/VHF/UHF Antenna Kit Instruction Manual

Model: AT-V55 | Brand: AnyTone

1. Introduction

The AnyTone AT-V55 Portable HF/VHF/UHF Antenna Kit is an all-in-one solution designed for amateur radio operators and emergency communications. This kit includes the AT-V55 multi-band portable antenna and a heavy-duty tripod stand, facilitating quick and stable deployment in various field conditions. It covers a wide frequency range from 7–430MHz, offering efficient signal performance with an SWR of ≤1.5 on tested HF bands, often eliminating the need for an external tuner. The robust design features an IP68 waterproof balun and 400W power handling capacity, ensuring reliability in rugged outdoor environments.

2. Safety Precautions

To ensure safe operation and prevent damage to the equipment or injury, please observe the following precautions:

  • Avoid High-Voltage Lines: Never set up the antenna near high-voltage power lines or metal structures that could conduct electricity.
  • Static Discharge/RF Burns: Do not touch metal parts of the antenna during operation to prevent static discharge or RF burns.
  • Thunderstorms: Never use the antenna during thunderstorms. Always take it down and store it safely in sheltered areas to avoid lightning strikes.
  • Stable Placement: Ensure the tripod is placed on a stable, level surface. Consider using weight bags or guy ropes for added stability in windy conditions.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present in your kit:

  • GH-V5 Telescopic V Antenna ×1
  • Heavy-Duty Aluminum Tripod Stand ×1
  • 5.6m Telescoping Rod Elements ×2
  • 10m Wire Oscillator Elements ×2
  • IP68 Waterproof 1:1 Balun (installed)
  • Instruction Manual ×1
  • Carrying Bag ×1

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps for quick and easy deployment of your AT-V55 antenna kit:

  1. Assemble the Tripod:

Unfold the heavy-duty aluminum tripod stand and secure its legs firmly. Adjust the height to your desired level, ensuring stability. The recommended minimum height for optimal performance is 4 meters (13 feet).

  2. Attach the Balun:

Mount the GH-V5 balun unit onto the top of the tripod stand. Ensure it is securely fastened.

  3. Connect Telescoping Rod Elements:

Screw the two 5.6m telescoping rod elements into the designated ports on the GH-V5 balun. These form the primary radiating elements of the antenna.

  4. Connect Wire Oscillator Elements (for lower HF bands):

For operation on lower HF bands (e.g., 40 meters), attach the 10m wire oscillator elements to the appropriate terminals on the balun. Extend these wires outwards, away from the telescoping rods, and secure them if necessary to form an inverted-V configuration.

  5. Extend Elements and Tune:

Carefully extend the telescoping rod elements to the desired length for your operating frequency. Markings on the elements assist with band selection. For optimal performance, fine-tune the length using an antenna analyzer to achieve the lowest SWR.

  6. Connect Coaxial Cable:

Connect your coaxial cable (not included) to the SO-239 connector on the GH-V5 balun and to your radio equipment.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the antenna is set up, follow these guidelines for operation:

  • Frequency Range: The AT-V55 covers 7–430MHz. For HF bands (7–50MHz), the SWR is typically ≤1.5 with the included telescopic elements, often negating the need for an external tuner.
  • VHF/UHF Operation: The antenna is proven usable on VHF/UHF (144/430MHz). Lab tests confirm clear transmission and reception at 145MHz and 438MHz without signal distortion or direction offset when tuned correctly.
  • Power Handling: The antenna is capable of handling up to 400W of power. Ensure your radio's output power does not exceed this limit to prevent damage.
  • Tuning: While often not required for major HF bands, always check your SWR with an external meter for optimal performance and to protect your radio. Adjust element lengths as needed.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your antenna kit:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the telescoping elements and balun with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect all connections, cables, and the tripod for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure all screws and fasteners are tight.
  • Storage: When not in use, disassemble the antenna and store all components in the provided carrying bag in a dry, cool place to protect them from environmental elements.
  • IP68 Balun: The IP68 waterproof rating of the balun ensures protection against dust and water immersion. However, avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme conditions to prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AT-V55 antenna kit, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • High SWR:
    • Check all connections for tightness and proper seating.
    • Verify the length of the telescoping elements matches the desired frequency.
    • Ensure the wire oscillator elements (if used) are properly deployed and not touching other objects.
    • Inspect coaxial cable for damage.
    • Confirm the antenna is clear of obstructions and metal objects.
  • Poor Signal Quality:
    • Ensure the antenna is set up at the recommended minimum height of 4 meters (13 feet).
    • Check for local interference sources.
    • Verify your radio settings (frequency, mode, power) are correct.
  • Antenna Instability:
    • Ensure tripod legs are fully extended and locked.
    • Use sandbags, water weights, or guy ropes to secure the tripod, especially in windy conditions.

If problems persist, consult the AnyTone support resources or contact customer service.
