4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Unscrew the battery cover located at the top of the device.
  2. Insert three LR44 batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Securely screw the battery cover back on.

4.2 Initial Preparation

Before first use, rinse the probe with clean water to remove any manufacturing residues. Ensure the probe is dry before storage or calibration.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Taking a Measurement

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to power on the device. The display will illuminate.
  2. Immerse the probe into the water sample up to the maximum immersion line indicated on the device. Do not immerse the part above the probe ring, as it is not waterproof.
  3. Gently stir the device in the water to remove any air bubbles around the probe.
  4. Wait for approximately 3 seconds for the reading to stabilize. The salinity (in ppm) and temperature (in °C or °F) will be displayed.
  5. To hold the current reading on the display, press the HOLD/TEMP button. Press it again to release the hold function.
  6. After use, rinse the probe with clean water and dry it thoroughly before storing.

5.2 Switching Temperature Units

While the device is on, press and hold the HOLD/TEMP button for a few seconds to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).

5.3 Ideal Salinity Levels

For most saltwater pool systems, the ideal salinity range is typically between 2700-3400 ppm. Refer to your salt chlorinator manufacturer's recommendations for specific requirements.

6. Calibration

Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your salinity tester. It is recommended to calibrate the device periodically or if you suspect inaccurate readings.

  1. Prepare a 5000 µS/cm conductivity calibration solution (often labeled as 5000 ppm for salinity testers).
  2. Turn on the meter by pressing the ON/OFF button.
  3. Immerse the probe into the calibration solution.
  4. Press and hold the CAL button until the display shows 'CAL' or a similar calibration indicator.
  5. The meter will automatically recognize the solution and calibrate itself. Wait for the display to show 'END' or return to measurement mode, indicating successful calibration.
  6. Rinse the probe with clean water and dry it after calibration.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Probe

After each use, rinse the probe thoroughly with clean tap water to prevent salt buildup and contamination. Gently wipe the probe with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.

7.2 Storage

Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the probe is clean and dry before storage. If storing for an extended period, consider removing the batteries.

7.3 Battery Replacement

When the display dims or the device fails to power on, replace the LR44 batteries as described in Section 4.1.
