What's in the Box

Please check the contents of your package against the following list:

  • Telescope Optical Tube (90mm Aperture, 500mm Focal Length)
  • Adjustable 133cm Tripod
  • 25mm Eyepiece
  • 10mm Eyepiece
  • 3x Barlow Lens
  • 5X24 Finderscope
  • Phone Adapter
  • Backpack
  • User Manual

Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all components from the backpack and packaging.
  2. Set Up the Tripod: Extend the legs of the 133cm tripod to your desired height. Ensure the tripod is stable on a flat surface.
  3. Attach the Telescope Tube: Mount the telescope optical tube onto the tripod's altazimuth mount. Secure it firmly using the provided screws or clamps.
  4. Install the Finderscope: Slide the 5X24 finderscope into its bracket on the main telescope tube and tighten the retaining screws.
  5. Insert an Eyepiece: Choose either the 25mm or 10mm eyepiece. Insert it into the diagonal (if applicable) or directly into the focuser. Secure it with the small thumbscrew.
  6. Attach Barlow Lens (Optional): For higher magnification, insert the 3x Barlow lens into the focuser first, then insert an eyepiece into the Barlow lens.

Operating the Telescope

1. Aligning the Finderscope

The finderscope helps locate objects before viewing them through the main telescope. To align it:

  1. Point the main telescope at a distant, easily identifiable object (e.g., a tree or building) during daylight hours.
  2. Center the object in the main telescope's eyepiece.
  3. Look through the finderscope and adjust its alignment screws until the same object is centered in the finderscope's crosshairs.

2. Focusing

Once an object is centered in the eyepiece, slowly turn the focuser knob until the image is sharp and clear. Fine-tune as needed for optimal clarity.

3. Magnification Options

Your telescope comes with different eyepieces and a Barlow lens to achieve various magnifications:

  • 25mm Eyepiece: Provides 20X magnification (500mm focal length / 25mm eyepiece = 20X). Ideal for wide-field views.
  • 10mm Eyepiece: Provides 50X magnification (500mm focal length / 10mm eyepiece = 50X). Good for more detailed views.
  • 3x Barlow Lens: Triples the magnification of any eyepiece.
    • With 25mm eyepiece + 3x Barlow: 60X magnification.
    • With 10mm eyepiece + 3x Barlow: 150X magnification.

Viewing Modes: Astronomical & Terrestrial

This telescope is versatile for both sky and land observations:

  • Astronomical Viewing: Observe the Moon, planets, and brighter deep-sky objects. The 90mm aperture gathers ample light for clear celestial views.
  • Terrestrial Viewing: Use the telescope to observe distant landscapes, wildlife, or other land-based objects. The zenith mirror ensures erect images, preventing upside-down views common in some telescopes.

Using the Smartphone Adapter

The included phone adapter allows you to capture images and videos through the telescope with your smartphone.

  1. Attach Phone to Adapter: Secure your smartphone to the adapter, ensuring the phone's camera lens aligns with the adapter's opening.
  2. Mount Adapter to Eyepiece: Carefully attach the phone adapter (with phone) to the eyepiece. Ensure it is snug but do not overtighten.
  3. Adjust for Viewing: Open your phone's camera app. Adjust the phone's position on the adapter and the telescope's focuser until the image is clear on your phone screen.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Gently wipe the lens surfaces. For stubborn spots, use a small amount of optical cleaning fluid. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the telescope in its backpack in a dry, dust-free environment. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Handling: Always handle the telescope and its components with care to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Image is blurry or out of focus. Focuser not adjusted correctly. Slowly turn the focuser knob until the image is sharp.
Cannot find objects. Finderscope is not aligned with the main telescope. Align the finderscope during daylight hours as described in the 'Operating' section.
Image is dim or dark. Light pollution, incorrect eyepiece, or atmospheric conditions. Move to a darker location. Use a lower magnification eyepiece (e.g., 25mm). Wait for clearer skies.
Image appears upside down. Normal for astronomical telescopes without a diagonal or with a standard diagonal. For terrestrial viewing, ensure the zenith mirror is correctly installed to provide erect images. Astronomical images are typically inverted.
