4. Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the bilge air blower.

4.1 Mounting

  • The blower features integrated molded mounting feet, allowing for stable installation on any flat surface.
  • It can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Choose a location that provides easy access for maintenance and ensures optimal airflow.
  • Secure the blower using appropriate fasteners (not included) through the mounting feet. Ensure the mounting surface is robust enough to support the blower and withstand vibrations.

4.2 Ducting

  • Connect 3-inch (76 mm) diameter ducting to both the intake and exhaust ports of the blower.
  • Use marine-grade ducting and secure connections with clamps to prevent air leaks.
  • Ensure ducting runs are as straight and short as possible to maximize airflow efficiency. Avoid sharp bends or kinks.
  • Position the intake in the lowest part of the compartment to effectively remove heavier-than-air fumes.

4.3 Electrical Wiring

The blower operates on 12V DC power. Refer to the wiring diagram below for correct connections.

  • Connect the red wire from the blower to the positive (+) terminal of your 12V DC power source, through a suitable switch and a 5.0A fuse.
  • Connect the black wire from the blower to the negative (-) terminal of your 12V DC power source.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are watertight and corrosion-resistant, using marine-grade connectors and heat shrink tubing.
  • The motor shaft is sealed to block moisture intrusion, enhancing longevity.

5. Operation

To operate the SEAFLO bilge air blower:

  1. Before starting your engine, activate the bilge blower for at least four minutes to evacuate any accumulated fumes from the engine compartment.
  2. Ensure the blower is running smoothly and quietly. The unit is designed for balanced, quiet airflow with a noise level of approximately 45 dB.
  3. The blower delivers 130 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of airflow with a maximum draw of 2.5A, providing efficient ventilation without excessive battery drain.
  4. After engine startup, the blower can be turned off, or operated intermittently as needed for continued ventilation.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your blower.

  • Monthly Inspection: Check the blower housing and ducting for any signs of damage, cracks, or obstructions. Ensure all mounting screws are tight.
  • Wiring Check: Inspect electrical connections for corrosion or loose wiring. Clean any corrosion and re-secure connections as necessary.
  • Impeller Cleaning: If airflow appears reduced, disconnect power and carefully remove any debris (leaves, dust, etc.) from the impeller blades. The blower features a four-blade impeller designed for efficient airflow.
  • Housing Material: The blower is constructed from corrosion-resistant ABS plastic, which requires minimal maintenance. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth if needed.
