1. Introduction
The FireAngel FA6812 is a digital carbon monoxide (CO) detector designed to provide reliable protection against the dangers of CO gas. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, and potentially fatal gas. This device features an electrochemical sensor with a 10-year lifespan and an LCD screen for clear display of CO levels and device status. Early detection and warning are crucial for preventing CO poisoning.

This manual will guide you through the installation, operation, and maintenance of your FA6812 detector to ensure optimal performance and safety.
2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Package Contents
- FireAngel FA6812 Carbon Monoxide Alarm
- 2 x AA Batteries
- Mounting Screws and Wall Plugs
- User Manual
2.2 Battery Installation
The FA6812 detector requires 2 AA batteries for operation. These are included in the package. To install the batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert the 2 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
The device will emit a short beep and the LCD will activate, indicating successful battery installation.
2.3 Placement Recommendations
For optimal CO detection, consider the following placement guidelines:
- General Placement: Install the detector at mid-height in a room, as carbon monoxide mixes evenly with air. Avoid placing it near the floor or ceiling.
- Proximity to Appliances: Place the detector at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from any fuel-burning appliances (e.g., boilers, gas stoves, fireplaces).
- Sleeping Areas: For maximum protection, install a detector in or near sleeping areas.
- Avoid Obstructions: Ensure the detector is not obstructed by furniture, curtains, or other objects that could block the sensor.
- Environmental Factors: Avoid placing the detector in direct sunlight, in areas of high humidity (e.g., bathrooms), or near ventilation openings.
2.4 Mounting Options
The FA6812 can be used freestanding or wall-mounted.
- Freestanding: The compact and portable design allows the unit to be placed on a flat surface, such as a shelf or table.
- Wall Mounting: Use the integrated mounting bracket and provided screws to securely attach the detector to a wall. Ensure the mounting location adheres to the placement recommendations above.

3. Operation
3.1 LCD Display Indications
The digital LCD screen provides real-time information about the detector's status:
- Standby Mode: Displays the current CO level in parts per million (ppm). If no CO is detected, it will show '0 ppm'.
- CO Alarm: When dangerous CO levels are detected, the screen will display the CO concentration in ppm, accompanied by an audible alarm and a flashing red light.
- "AL" (Alarm in Absence): If a CO alarm triggers while you are away, the device will enter "Alarm in Absence" mode. The screen will display "AL", and the unit will beep every 40 seconds with a red flashing light until deactivated.
- Battery Status: An icon indicates the battery level. A flashing orange "!" and continuous beep signify low batteries.
- "EOL" (End of Life): This indicator signals that the device has reached the end of its 10-year operational life and needs replacement.

3.2 Alarm Activation
In the event of CO detection, the FA6812 will:
- Emit four loud beeps (85 dB(A) at 3m minimum).
- Flash a red LED light.
- Display the CO concentration in ppm on the LCD screen.
If the alarm sounds:
- Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows.
- Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
- Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
- Seek medical attention for anyone experiencing symptoms of CO poisoning (headache, nausea, dizziness).
- Contact the appropriate emergency services or a qualified technician to investigate the source of the CO.
3.3 Sleep Easy™ Function
The Sleep Easy™ function allows you to temporarily silence the low battery warning for 8 hours. To activate:
- Press and hold the test button when the low battery warning sounds.
During this period, the orange indicator light will continue to flash, and the device remains fully functional for CO detection. This feature is designed for convenience, but batteries should be replaced as soon as possible.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Regular Testing
It is recommended to test your CO detector monthly to ensure it is functioning correctly. To perform a test:
- Press and hold the 'TEST' button on the front of the unit.
- The alarm will sound, and the red LED will flash, indicating the alarm is working.
- Release the button to stop the test.
4.2 Battery Replacement
When the batteries are low, the detector will indicate this with a flashing orange "!" on the LCD and a continuous beep. Replace the batteries immediately to maintain continuous protection. Refer to section 2.2 for battery installation instructions.
4.3 End of Life (EOL) Indication
The FA6812 has a 10-year lifespan. When the device reaches its end of life, the LCD will display "EOL". At this point, the detector should be replaced with a new unit to ensure continued safety.
4.4 Cleaning
Dust and debris can affect the detector's performance. Gently clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents, as these can damage the sensor or casing. Do not paint the detector.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm sounds and LCD shows CO level | Carbon monoxide detected | Follow alarm activation procedures (Section 3.2). Evacuate, ventilate, seek medical help if needed, and identify CO source. |
| Flashing orange "!" and continuous beep | Low battery warning | Replace batteries immediately (Section 4.2). Use Sleep Easy™ function if temporary silence is needed. |
| LCD displays "AL" and beeps every 40 seconds | Alarm in Absence triggered | A CO alarm occurred while you were away. Investigate potential CO sources and ventilate the area. |
| LCD displays "EOL" | End of product life | Replace the detector with a new unit. The sensor is no longer reliable after 10 years. |
| No display or unit unresponsive | No batteries, incorrect battery installation, or faulty unit | Check battery installation and polarity. Replace batteries. If still unresponsive, the unit may be faulty and require replacement. |
