Manual Calibration (Stud Mode)
- Place the tool flat against the wall where you intend to scan.
- Press and hold the side button. The green light will turn on, and a beep will sound, indicating that manual calibration is ready.
- Keep the side button pressed throughout the scanning process in stud mode.
Auto Calibration (Metal/AC Mode)
- For Metal or AC modes, simply short press the corresponding "Metal" or "AC" button while holding the device in the air, away from any surfaces.
- The green light will turn on, indicating that auto-calibration is complete and the device is ready for use in the selected mode.
Scanning Modes
The device features five scanning modes to detect different materials at varying depths:

Stud Scan Modes
These modes are designed to locate the edges and center of wood studs behind drywall.
- Stud 1/2" Scan: Detects wood studs up to 1/2 inch (13mm) deep.
- Stud 1" Scan: Detects wood studs up to 1 inch (25mm) deep.
- Stud 1-1/2" Scan: Detects wood studs up to 1-1/2 inches (38mm) deep.
To find a stud's center:

- Perform manual calibration as described above.
- Slowly slide the tool horizontally across the wall, keeping it in full contact with the surface.
- When the device approaches a stud, an arrow will appear on the screen indicating the direction of the target. The signal strength bars will increase.
- When the center of the stud is found, a steady beep will sound, the indicator light will turn red, and the display will show "CENTER".
- Mark the location with a pencil.
Metal Scan Mode
This mode detects ferrous and non-ferrous metal objects, such as pipes or rebar.
- Metal Detection: Can detect metal objects up to 1-3/8 inches (60mm) deep.
AC Wire Scan Mode
This mode identifies live unshielded AC electrical wires.
- AC Scan: Can detect live AC wires up to 2 inches (51mm) deep.

- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate operation.
- Avoid Extreme Conditions: Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your PREXISO Stud Finder, consider the following common solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate readings or inconsistent detection. | Improper calibration, wall conditions (moisture, texture, paint), or low battery. | Ensure proper calibration before each scan. Re-calibrate when moving to a new area or wall. Check wall conditions; allow freshly painted walls to dry. Replace the battery if low. |
| Device does not turn on. | Dead or incorrectly installed battery. | Check battery installation and replace with a fresh 9V battery. |
| No detection in stud mode. | Side button not held during scan, or wall material is unsuitable. | Ensure the side button is continuously pressed while scanning in stud mode. Confirm the wall is interior dry wall, not stone, metal, or low-density plasterboard. |
| False AC wire warnings. | Interference from other electrical sources or device proximity to outlets. | Scan slowly and confirm the signal. Be aware that the device indicates AC wires in all modes. |
