5. Installation and Setup

5.1 Physical Installation

The controller can be mounted using two methods:

  • Screw Mounting: Secure the controller to a wall or stable surface using appropriate screws and anchors through the mounting tabs.
  • Adhesive Hook Mounting: For temporary or non-invasive installations, an adhesive hook can be used on the back of the controller.

5.2 Sensor Adjustment

The dual sensors are adjustable, allowing you to set the desired high and low water levels for pump activation and deactivation. The sensors can be adjusted within a range of 0.5 inches to 20 inches.

  1. Determine the desired high (pump ON) and low (pump OFF) water levels for your application.
  2. Position the sensors at these levels within the water tank or pit. Ensure they are securely fastened and will not shift.
  3. The upper sensor typically corresponds to the 'Hi' level (pump activation), and the lower sensor to the 'Lo' level (pump deactivation).

5.3 Wiring and Connection

The controller supports both 110V and 220V power inputs. Ensure your pump is compatible with the selected voltage.

  1. Connect the controller's power plug to a suitable electrical outlet.
  2. Plug your sump or utility pump into the outlet on the front of the Ortis controller.
  3. Ensure all connections are firm and secure.

6. Operation

6.1 Mode Selection (Drain/Fill)

The controller supports two primary operational modes:

  • Drain Mode: Used for applications like sewage pits, where the pump activates to remove water when it reaches the high sensor and deactivates when it drops to the low sensor.
  • Fill Mode: Used for water replenishment, such as in fish tanks or water towers, where the pump activates to fill water when it drops to the low sensor and deactivates when it reaches the high sensor.

Select the desired mode using the switch on the controller labeled 'Drain' or 'Water'.

6.2 Load Running Modes

The controller features three adjustable load running modes:

  • AUTO: Automatic operation based on sensor readings and selected mode (Drain/Fill).
  • OFF: Manually turns off the connected pump.
  • ON: Manually turns on the connected pump, bypassing sensor control.

Use the 'Load' switch to select the desired running mode.

6.3 LED Indicators

The front panel LEDs provide visual status:

  • Drain/Water LED: Indicates the currently selected mode.
  • DisAlarm LED: Illuminates when an alarm condition is active.
  • AUTO/OFF/ON LEDs: Indicate the current load running mode.
  • Load LED: Indicates if the pump is currently active.

6.4 Intelligent Overload & Failure Alerts

The controller includes built-in safety features:

  • Overload Protection: If the connected pump draws more than 23A, the controller will automatically shut off the pump to prevent damage.
  • Failure Alerts: The system monitors for pump failures, clogs, or abnormal discharge. If detected, an audible alarm will sound, and the 'DisAlarm' LED will illuminate.
  • Mute Function: The alarm can be silenced for up to 24 hours by pressing the 'Mute' button.

7. Maintenance

The Ortis ETC-105 is designed for minimal maintenance:

  • Sensor Cleaning: The 304 stainless steel electrodes are resistant to corrosion and mineral build-up, offering up to 10 years of maintenance-free operation. However, in extremely harsh water conditions, occasional inspection and gentle cleaning of the sensors may be beneficial.
  • Controller Housing: Keep the controller housing clean and free from dust and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check power and sensor cables for any signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Ortis controller, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Pump Not Activating:
    • Check power supply to the controller.
    • Ensure the pump is securely plugged into the controller.
    • Verify the 'Load' switch is in 'AUTO' mode.
    • Confirm sensors are correctly positioned and clean.
    • Check if the 'DisAlarm' LED is on, indicating a pump failure or clog.
  • Pump Not Deactivating:
    • Check if the lower sensor is submerged or obstructed.
    • Ensure the 'Load' switch is in 'AUTO' mode.
  • Alarm Sounds Continuously:
    • Investigate for pump clogs, blockages, or abnormal discharge.
    • Press the 'Mute' button to silence the alarm temporarily while you address the issue.
  • Overload Protection Activates:
    • The pump may be drawing too much current. Check for pump motor issues or blockages.
    • Ensure the pump's current draw does not exceed 23A.

If problems persist, contact customer support.
