Pawfly 7-in-1 Pool & Spa Water Test Strips Instruction Manual

Model: Pawfly-YL7993

1. Introduction

The Pawfly 7-in-1 Pool & Spa Water Test Strips are designed for quick and accurate testing of water quality in swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas. These strips provide a convenient method to monitor seven key parameters, helping to ensure balanced and safe water conditions.

2. Product Overview

These test strips are designed to measure the following seven critical water parameters:

  • pH: Measures the acidity or alkalinity of the water.
  • Total Hardness (TH): Indicates the concentration of dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium.
  • Total Chlorine (TC): Represents the total amount of chlorine present, including both free and combined chlorine.
  • Free Chlorine (FC): Measures the active chlorine available to sanitize the water.
  • Total Alkalinity (TA): Acts as a buffer to prevent rapid pH changes.
  • Cyanuric Acid (CYA): Stabilizes chlorine against degradation from UV light.
  • Bromine (Br): Measures the bromine level, an alternative sanitizer.

These strips can be used for standalone testing or as refills for the Pawfly 7-in-1 Digital Water Testing Kit (not included).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Standalone Testing

Follow these steps for standalone testing using the color chart on the bottle:

  1. Immerse: Dip one test strip into the water for 2 seconds.
  2. Remove: Take the strip out of the water. Do not shake off excess water.
  3. Hold Horizontally: Hold the strip horizontally for 15 seconds to allow colors to develop.
  4. Compare: Immediately compare the colors on the strip to the color chart provided on the test strip bottle.

3.2 Testing with Pawfly Digital Water Testing Kit (Not Included)

If you are using these strips with the Pawfly 7-in-1 Digital Water Testing Kit, follow the instructions provided with your digital tester. The general steps are:

  1. Immerse: Dip a test strip into the water for 2 seconds.
  2. Activate Tester: Press and hold the "U" button to turn on the digital tester.
  3. Prepare for Scan: Press "OK" and wait for the countdown to reach 0.
  4. Shake Off Excess Water: Gently shake off any excess water from the strip.
  5. Insert Strip: Insert the test strip into the testing slot of the digital analyzer.
  6. Read Results: Press "OK" again and wait for the digital tester to display the results.

4. Interpreting Results

For standalone testing, compare the colors on the test strip to the color chart on the bottle immediately after the 15-second development period. Each parameter has a specific color block range indicating different concentration levels. Match the color on your strip to the closest color on the chart to determine the water parameter levels.

The precise test ranges are:

  • pH: 6.2-9
  • Total Hardness (TH): 0-1000 ppm
  • Total Chlorine (TC): 0-10 ppm
  • Free Chlorine (FC): 0-10 ppm
  • Total Alkalinity (TA): 0-240 ppm
  • Cyanuric Acid (CYA): 0-240 ppm
  • Bromine (Br): 0-20 ppm

Refer to pool and spa maintenance guidelines for ideal ranges for each parameter. Adjust water chemistry as needed based on your readings.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Storage

To maintain the accuracy and shelf life of your test strips:

  • Keep the test strips in their original bottle.
  • Ensure the cap is tightly sealed immediately after removing a strip.
  • Store the bottle in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • The bottle contains a desiccant packet to absorb moisture; do not remove it.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter unexpected results or issues, consider the following:

  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the strip was immersed for exactly 2 seconds.
    • Verify the strip was held horizontally for 15 seconds without shaking off excess water.
    • Compare the strip to the color chart immediately after the development time.
    • Check the expiration date of the test strips. Expired strips may give inaccurate results.
    • Ensure the bottle cap was tightly sealed after each use to prevent moisture contamination.
  • No Color Change / Faint Colors:
    • This may indicate very low levels of the tested parameter.
    • Ensure proper storage conditions to prevent degradation of the reactive pads.
  • Difficulty Reading Colors:
    • Perform the test in good lighting conditions.
    • Ensure the color chart on the bottle is clean and not faded.

Regular testing is essential for maintaining balanced water chemistry. Unbalanced water can lead to issues such as murky water, skin irritation, eye burning, and frequent equipment maintenance.
