2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety during installation and operation. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in injury, damage to the product, or vehicle damage.

  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery before beginning any electrical work to prevent electrical shock or short circuits.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged.
  • Allow the vehicle's engine and any hot components to cool down before working.
  • If you are unsure about any step of the installation process, consult a qualified automotive technician.
  • Do not modify the headlight assemblies or wiring harnesses, as this may void the warranty and compromise safety.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all components are present and undamaged before proceeding with installation. The package should contain the following items:

4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Tools Required

  • Socket Wrench Set
  • Panel Removal Tools
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and Flathead)
  • Wire Strippers/Crimpers (if custom wiring is needed, though typically plug-and-play)
  • Multimeter (for testing connections)
  • Zip Ties or Cable Management Clips

4.2. Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat, stable surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery.
  4. Allow the engine bay to cool down completely.

4.3. Headlight Removal

  1. Carefully remove any plastic clips, bolts, or screws securing the front bumper cover.
  2. Gently pull the bumper cover away from the vehicle to access the headlight mounting bolts. It may not be necessary to fully remove the bumper, only to loosen it sufficiently.
  3. Locate and remove the bolts securing the factory headlight assembly. Typically, there are bolts on the top, side, and sometimes underneath the headlight.
  4. Carefully pull the factory headlight assembly forward, disconnecting all electrical connectors from the rear of the housing.
  5. Repeat the process for the other side.

4.4. Wiring Connections

The Morimoto XB Evo Hybrid headlights feature a plug-and-play design. The specific harnesses used will depend on whether your 4Runner originally came with LED or Halogen headlights.

  1. Identify Original Headlight Type: Determine if your vehicle originally had LED or Halogen headlights. Select the corresponding Morimoto wiring harness (OE LED Harnesses or OE Halogen Harnesses).
  2. Connect Main Headlight Harness: Connect the appropriate Morimoto main headlight harness to the vehicle's factory headlight connector.
  3. DRL Harness Connection: Connect the DRL Harness to the designated port on the new headlight assembly. Use the DRL Harness Extension if needed for proper routing.
  4. Fuse Tap Installation: Install the provided Fuse Tap into an appropriate fuse slot in the vehicle's fuse box (refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for an accessory fuse location). Connect the DRL harness to the fuse tap. This provides power for the Daytime Running Lights.
  5. Resistor Installation (if applicable): If your vehicle requires resistors to prevent hyper-flashing or bulb-out warnings (common with some halogen-to-LED conversions), securely mount the resistors to a metal surface away from plastic components, as they can generate heat. Connect them as per the included resistor instructions.
  6. 9005 Connector Caps (if applicable): Use these caps to seal any unused connectors.
  7. Ensure all connections are secure and properly seated.

4.5. Headlight Installation

  1. Carefully guide the new Morimoto XB Evo Hybrid LED Headlight assembly into the opening. Ensure all wiring is tucked away and not pinched.
  2. Align the mounting points and secure the headlight assembly with the factory bolts removed earlier. Do not overtighten.
  3. Repeat for the other headlight.
  4. Reinstall the front bumper cover, ensuring all clips, bolts, and screws are reattached securely.

4.6. Post-Installation Checks

  1. Reconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery.
  2. Turn on the vehicle's ignition and test all lighting functions: Daytime Running Lights, Low Beams, High Beams, and Turn Signals.
  3. Verify that there are no dashboard warning lights related to the headlights.
  4. Perform a headlight aiming adjustment. This is crucial for proper light distribution and to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Consult your vehicle's service manual or a professional for correct aiming procedures.

5. Operating Instructions

Your Morimoto XB Evo Hybrid LED Headlights are designed to integrate seamlessly with your vehicle's existing lighting controls.

5.1. Daytime Running Lights (DRL)

The integrated white LED DRLs will illuminate automatically when the vehicle is running and the headlights are off, or as per your vehicle's DRL settings. These provide enhanced visibility during daylight hours.

5.2. Low Beam

Activate the low beams using your vehicle's standard headlight switch. The Bi-LED projectors will provide a wide and bright light pattern for general night driving, compliant with DOT standards.

5.3. High Beam

Engage the high beams using your vehicle's standard high beam control. The Bi-LED projectors will switch to a more focused, intense beam pattern to illuminate further down the road.

5.4. Turn Signals

The amber LED turn signals will activate with a fade-off effect when your vehicle's turn signal lever is engaged. Ensure they flash at the correct rate.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Morimoto XB Evo Hybrid LED Headlights.

6.1. Cleaning

  • Clean the headlight lenses regularly with a soft cloth and mild automotive soap or glass cleaner.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the polycarbonate lens material.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water to remove any soap residue.

6.2. Inspection

  • Periodically inspect the headlight assemblies for any signs of damage, cracks, or moisture intrusion.
  • Check all wiring connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion.
