4. Safety Information

  • Always handle tools with care. The crimping tool and wire cutter contain sharp blades.
  • Keep tools out of reach of children.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, when cutting or stripping wires.
  • Ensure the crimping tool is locked when not in use to prevent accidental injury.
  • Do not use the tools for purposes other than their intended function.

5. Operating Instructions: RJ45 Cable Termination

Follow these steps to properly terminate an Ethernet cable with an RJ45 pass-through connector:

  1. Prepare the Cable:
    a. Slide a blue cable boot onto the cable. This will be positioned after crimping.
    b. Use the mini wire stripper or the stripping function on the crimping tool to carefully remove approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the cable's outer jacket. Ensure not to cut the internal wires.

    c. Untwist the four pairs of wires and straighten them. Cut off any central plastic core if present, using the wire cutter.
  2. Arrange Wires (T568A or T568B Standard):
Arrange the wires according to either the T568A or T568B wiring standard. The crimping tool has a diagram for reference. Ensure the wires are straight and parallel.

  3. Trim Wires:
Using the wire cutter, trim the arranged wires to a uniform length, ensuring they are about 0.5 inches (1.2 cm) long from the jacket edge. An angled cut can facilitate insertion into the connector.
  4. Insert Wires into Connector:
Carefully insert the straightened and trimmed wires into the RJ45 pass-through connector. Push them all the way through until the cable jacket is inside the connector body and the wires extend out the front. Verify the wire order through the clear connector body.
  5. Crimp the Connector:
    a. Unlock the crimping tool by pressing the lock button.

    b. Insert the RJ45 connector into the 8P crimp nest of the tool. Ensure it is seated correctly.
    c. Squeeze the handles of the crimping tool firmly and completely until the ratchet mechanism releases. The pass-through design will automatically trim the excess wires extending from the front of the connector.
  6. Inspect and Finish:
Remove the crimped connector from the tool. Inspect the connection to ensure all pins are properly seated and the wires are securely crimped. Slide the blue cable boot over the connector for protection and strain relief.

6. Operating Instructions: Using the Network Cable Tester

After crimping your Ethernet cable, use the network cable tester to verify its functionality:

  1. Install Battery: Open the battery compartment on the main unit of the cable tester and insert a 9V battery (not included). Close the compartment securely.
  2. Connect Cable: Plug one end of the terminated Ethernet cable into the RJ45 port on the main unit of the tester and the other end into the RJ45 port on the remote unit.
  3. Power On: Slide the power switch on the main unit to the 'ON' position.
  4. Observe LEDs: The LED indicators on both the main and remote units will light up sequentially from 1 to 8 (and G for ground, if applicable).

    • Correct Wiring: All LEDs light up sequentially on both units, indicating proper continuity and wiring order.
    • Open Circuit: If an LED fails to light up on either unit, it indicates an open circuit (broken wire) for that specific pin.
    • Short Circuit: If two or more LEDs light up simultaneously or in an incorrect sequence, it indicates a short circuit between those wires.
    • Crossed Wires: If the sequence of lights is different between the main and remote units, it indicates crossed wires.
  5. Power Off: After testing, slide the power switch to 'OFF' to conserve battery life.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe all tools with a dry, clean cloth after each use to remove dust and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Blade Replacement: The crimping tool includes two spare blades. If the cutting or crimping performance degrades, replace the blade. To replace, locate the small screw holding the blade in place, unscrew it, carefully remove the old blade, insert a new one, and secure the screw.
  • Cable Tester Battery: Replace the 9V battery in the cable tester when the LED indicators become dim or do not light up.
  • Storage: Store all components in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use the crimping tool's lock mechanism for compact and safe storage.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Network cable not working after crimping.Incorrect wiring order; loose connection; faulty connector; damaged cable.Use the cable tester to identify the fault. Re-crimp the connector, ensuring correct wiring and firm crimping. Replace the connector if damaged.
Cable tester LEDs do not light up or are dim.Low or dead 9V battery; cable not properly connected.Replace the 9V battery. Ensure both ends of the cable are fully inserted into the tester ports.
Wires are not cut cleanly by the crimping tool.Dull or damaged blade.Replace the blade with one of the spare blades provided.
Difficulty inserting wires into the pass-through connector.Wires are not straight or trimmed unevenly.Ensure wires are completely straightened and trimmed to a uniform length. Make a slight angled cut if necessary.
