The Retevis RM15 is a portable VHF marine radio designed for reliable communication in marine environments. 3. Initial Setup

3.1 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the radio's 2000 mAh battery. The RM15 supports two charging methods:

  • Charging Base: Place the radio in the provided charging base.
  • Type-C Direct Charging: Connect the Type-C charging cable directly to the radio's charging interface.

A full charge typically takes approximately 3.5 hours with a 5V 2A charger. Ensure the charging contacts are clean and free from corrosion for optimal performance.

3.2 Power On/Off

To power on the radio, rotate the Volume/Power switch clockwise. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.

4. Basic Operation

4.1 Channel Selection

The RM15 supports 88 international marine channels. Use the CH+ and CH- buttons to navigate through available channels. The 1.7-inch COG dot matrix screen will display the current channel.

  • Emergency Channels (CH16/9): Press the 16/9 button for quick access to international marine emergency channel 16 or preset call channel 9.

4.2 Volume Adjustment

Adjust the audio output volume by rotating the Volume/Power switch. The 1000mW audio speaker ensures clear sound even in noisy marine environments.

4.3 Dual-Watch / Tri-Watch

The Dual-Watch and Tri-Watch functions allow you to monitor two or three channels simultaneously for convenient communication. This ensures you stay informed on your operating channel while also monitoring emergency or call channels.

4.4 Noise Reduction

The RM15 features two-way electronic noise reduction technology. This system automatically filters out background noise such as engine sounds, ocean waves, and general vessel clamor, ensuring clear and crisp communication.

4.5 FM Radio

The RM15 includes an integrated FM radio function, providing entertainment during navigation or while docked. Access the FM radio via the MENU button and select the FM option.

4.6 Flashlight Function

The radio is equipped with a built-in flashlight function, useful for night illumination or emergency situations. Activate the flashlight by pressing the dedicated Flashlight button.

4.7 Key Lock

To prevent accidental button presses, activate the key lock feature. Refer to the on-screen menu for key lock activation and deactivation instructions.

4.8 Favorite Channels (FAV button)

The FAV button allows quick access to frequently used channels, enabling rapid channel switching and saving time during operation.

4.9 Alarm Function

The RM15 includes a built-in flashing and audible alarm. This feature can be activated in emergency situations to signal your location, even in rough waters or low visibility conditions.

5. Maintenance and Care

5.1 Waterproof and Floating Design

The RM15 radio boasts an IP68 waterproof rating, capable of withstanding immersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Its floating design ensures that if the radio accidentally falls into the sea, it will not sink, making it easy to retrieve. The anti-corrosion and rust-proof charging contacts contribute to its durability in harsh marine environments.

5.2 Cleaning

Regularly clean the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Ensure the charging contacts are free from salt residue or debris to maintain proper charging functionality. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
