Setup
Battery Installation
Both the TLP-900A Emitter and TLP-900R Receiver require one 9V battery each for operation. To install:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of each unit.
- Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert a 9V battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) alignment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Insert the two included 9V batteries into the designated compartments on both the transmitter and receiver units, ensuring correct polarity.
Operating Instructions
1. Cable Tracing (Scan Mode)
This function helps locate specific cables within bundles, behind walls, or under floors.
- Connect one end of the cable to be traced to the RJ45 or RJ11 port on the TLP-900A Emitter.
- Turn on the TLP-900A Emitter and select the 'SCAN' mode.
- Turn on the TLP-900R Receiver and adjust its sensitivity using the rotary knob.
- Use the inductive probe of the receiver to scan along the suspected cable path. The receiver will emit an audible tone and/or light indication when it detects the signal from the emitter.

Connect the transmitter to one end of the cable. Use the receiver's inductive probe to trace the cable, identifying its path and location. The device supports tracing UTP, STP, and PoE cables.
2. Cable Fault Testing (Continuity, Short, Open, Crossover)
This mode checks the integrity of network and telephone cables.
- Connect one end of the cable to the RJ45 or RJ11 port on the TLP-900A Emitter and the other end to the corresponding port on the TLP-900R Receiver.
- Turn on both units. The LED indicators on the emitter will sequentially light up, indicating the status of each wire pair.
- Observe the LED sequence:
- Normal Connection: LEDs light up in sequence (1-8 for RJ45, 2-3 for RJ11).
- Open Circuit: An LED fails to light up.
- Short Circuit: Two or more LEDs light up simultaneously or irregularly.
- Crossover: LEDs light up in a non-standard sequence.

The tester can detect common cable faults such as short circuits, open circuits, and crossover wiring. LED indicators on the transmitter visually represent the type of fault detected.
3. QC RJ45 Crimping Inspection
This feature allows for quick verification of RJ45 connector crimp quality.
- Insert a newly crimped RJ45 connector into the dedicated 'QC' port on the TLP-900A Emitter.
- The emitter's LEDs will provide immediate feedback. A red light indicates an abnormal crimp, while a white light indicates a good connection.

Insert a crimped RJ45 connector into the QC port on the transmitter. The LED indicators will provide immediate feedback on the quality of the crimp, with red indicating an issue and white indicating a good connection.
4. NCV Function (Non-Contact Voltage)
The receiver can detect live AC voltage without direct contact.
- Press the 'NCV' button on the TLP-900R Receiver.
- Bring the tip of the receiver close to an electrical outlet or live wire.
- The receiver will indicate the presence of AC voltage through an audible alarm and/or visual indicator.

The receiver features a Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) function to identify live wires and electrical sockets, enhancing safety during operation.
5. Telephone Line Polarity Test
The TLP-900AR can identify the status of telephone lines.
- Connect the RJ11 cable to the telephone line and the emitter.
- The device can identify different states such as standby, off-hook, and ringing, providing insight into the line's condition.
6. Adjusting Sensitivity
The receiver's sensitivity can be fine-tuned for precise cable location.
- Clockwise Rotation: Increases sensitivity for faster cable locating over longer distances or through obstacles.
- Counter-clockwise Rotation: Decreases sensitivity for more precise pinpointing of a cable in a dense bundle.

The receiver's sensitivity can be adjusted using the rotary knob. Turn clockwise for higher sensitivity to quickly locate cables, and counter-clockwise for lower sensitivity for more precise pinpointing.
7. Built-in LED Light
The receiver is equipped with an LED light for improved visibility.
- Press the 'LAMP' button on the TLP-900R Receiver to turn on the built-in LED light.
- This feature is useful for working in dimly lit environments such as server racks or behind furniture.

The receiver unit includes a built-in LED light to illuminate dark working areas, improving visibility during cable tracing and testing.
