3. Setup

3.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the Ocelot 256 from its packaging. Inspect the device for any signs of damage. Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present.

3.2 Battery Installation

The Ocelot 256 uses a rechargeable battery. Locate the battery compartment, typically on the side or bottom of the device. Insert the battery according to the polarity indicators (+/-). Close the compartment securely.

3.3 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the battery. Connect the provided charging cable to the device and a suitable power source. The charging indicator will show the charging status.

3.4 Mounting (if applicable)

If using with a firearm, ensure proper mounting using compatible rings or mounts. Refer to your firearm's manual and local regulations for safe mounting practices. Ensure the scope is securely fastened and aligned.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

  • Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually located near the eyepiece) for approximately 3 seconds until the display illuminates.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the power button again for 3 seconds until the device shuts down.
  • Standby Mode: A single short press of the power button will put the device into standby mode, conserving battery while allowing for quick reactivation. Press again to wake.

4.2 Menu Navigation and User Interface

The Ocelot 256 features an intuitive user interface with new icons for easy navigation. Use the directional buttons or rotary dial (if present) to move through menu options. Press the confirmation button to select an option.

4.3 Scene Modes

Optimize your viewing experience by selecting one of the three scene modes:

  • City Mode: Designed for urban environments, reducing glare and enhancing detail.
  • Rain Mode: Adjusts for precipitation, minimizing image distortion caused by rain.
  • Forest Mode: Optimized for dense foliage, improving target separation from background clutter.

4.4 Hot Track Function

Activate the Hot Track feature to automatically identify and highlight the hottest point within the thermal image. This is particularly useful for quickly locating targets.

4.5 Recording Features

  • Smart Screen Recording: The device records not only the thermal image but also includes the home screen and menu icons, providing a comprehensive record of your activity.
  • Recoil-Activated Recording (RAR): When enabled, the device continuously records a 20-second loop. Upon detecting the recoil of a shot, the system automatically saves the preceding and subsequent moments of the shot, ensuring you capture the critical event.
  • Manual Recording: Press the dedicated record button to start and stop video recording manually.
  • Photo Capture: Press the photo button to capture still images.

4.6 WiFi Connection

To connect your Ocelot 256 to a smartphone or tablet:

  1. Download the official Pard app from your device's app store.
  2. Turn on WiFi on your Ocelot 256 via the menu settings.
  3. On your smartphone, connect to the Ocelot 256's WiFi network (SSID and password will be displayed on the scope's screen).
  4. Open the Pard app to use your phone as an external viewfinder, view recorded media, or adjust settings remotely.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Device

  • Lens Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optics. Gently wipe the lens surface. For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of lens cleaning solution.
  • Body Cleaning: Wipe the body of the scope with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5.2 Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures.
  • If storing the device for an extended period, remove the battery.

5.3 Storage

When not in use, store the Ocelot 256 in its protective case in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

5.4 IP67 Waterproof Rating

The Ocelot 256 is rated IP67, meaning it is protected from dust ingress and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. While robust, avoid prolonged submersion and ensure all caps and covers are securely closed before exposure to water.
