1. Introduction

The HIKMICRO B20 Thermal Imaging Camera is a professional-grade device designed for accurate temperature measurement and thermal analysis. It integrates a 256x192 IR resolution thermal sensor with a 2MP visual camera, offering various imaging modes and connectivity options for comprehensive inspections. This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your B20 camera.

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your HIKMICRO B20, carefully unpack the contents. The package should include the B20 thermal camera. Inspect the device for any signs of damage during transit. If any components are missing or damaged, contact customer support immediately.

2.2 Battery Charging

The B20 camera is equipped with a built-in rechargeable Lithium Metal battery. Before first use, fully charge the device. Connect the camera to a power source using a standard USB-A charging cable. Note that the camera primarily charges using USB-A; some USB-C high-power cables may not be compatible for charging. It is recommended to keep the device charged to prevent battery damage and ensure readiness for use.

2.3 Power On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button. To power off, press and hold the power button again and confirm the shutdown prompt on the screen. Ensure the lens cover is slid open before use.

2.4 WiFi Connectivity

The B20 camera features built-in Wi-Fi for connecting to mobile devices. Download the HIKMICRO Viewer App from your device's app store. Once installed, enable Wi-Fi on the B20 and connect your mobile device to the camera's Wi-Fi network. This allows for live streaming, remote control, and image transfer.

3. Operating the HIKMICRO B20

3.1 Display and Interface

The B20 features a 3.2-inch LCD screen for clear display of thermal and visual images. The interface includes navigation buttons for menu access and settings adjustments.

3.2 Image Modes and Color Palettes

The camera offers four image modes: Thermal, Optical, Fusion, and Picture-in-Picture (PIP). These modes allow for versatile viewing and analysis by blending the 256x192 IR resolution with the 2MP visual light camera. Multiple color palettes are available to optimize thermal visualization for different inspection scenarios.

  • Thermal Mode: Displays only the infrared image.
  • Optical Mode: Displays only the visual light image.
  • Fusion Mode: Blends thermal and visual images for enhanced detail.
  • PIP Mode: Overlays a smaller thermal image onto the visual image.

3.3 Temperature Measurement

The B20 provides full-screen thermal analysis with a temperature range of -4°F to 1022°F (-20°C to 550°C). It features automatic tracking for Hot Spot, Cold Spot, and a Center Spot. Additionally, users can define up to three custom measurement spots for specific analysis.

3.4 Special Features

  • Audio Alarm & Warning Light: The device can be configured to emit an audio alarm and activate a warning light when temperatures exceed or fall below predefined thresholds.
  • LED Work Light: An integrated LED work light assists in illuminating dark or hard-to-reach areas for visual inspection.

3.5 Image and Video Capture

The B20 allows for capturing thermal and visual images. The 16GB eMMC flash storage can hold over 90,000 images. Captured data can be reviewed directly on the device or transferred for further analysis.

3.6 Data Management and Analysis

Utilize the HIKMICRO Viewer App for mobile devices to live stream, analyze images, and share reports. For more in-depth analysis and professional reporting, the HIKMICRO Analyzer software is available for PC (Windows laptops).

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance and longevity of your HIKMICRO B20, wipe the device clean with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the casing or lens. Ensure the lens is free of dust and smudges for clear imaging.

4.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, it is recommended to keep the device charged, especially during periods of non-use. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If storing the device for an extended period, ensure it is charged to approximately 50-70% and recharge periodically.

4.3 Storage

Store the camera in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Protect the lens from scratches and impacts when not in use.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Common Issues

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the camera to a USB-A power source and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Charging issues: The B20 camera is designed to charge using a standard USB-A cable. Some USB-C high-power cables or chargers may not be compatible and could prevent the device from charging. Use the provided cable or a known compatible USB-A charger.
  • Poor image quality: Check if the lens is clean and free from obstructions. Ensure the correct image mode and color palette are selected for the environment. Adjust focus if available.
  • WiFi connection problems: Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled on both the camera and your mobile device. For iPhone users, disable 'Wi-Fi Assist' and 'Cellular Data' in your phone's settings to maintain a stable connection to the camera's Wi-Fi network.
