4. Setup and First Use

Before using your LAICA VT3220 for the first time, please follow these steps:

  1. Unpack the Appliance: Carefully remove the vacuum sealer and all accessories from the packaging.
  2. Clean the Appliance: Wipe the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth. Ensure the removable liquid collection tray is clean and properly inserted.

  4. Position the Locking Handle: Ensure the locking handle is in the unlocked position when not in use to prevent compression of the gaskets, which can prolong their lifespan.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Vacuum Sealing with Bags/Rolls

Follow these steps for vacuum sealing food using LAICA vacuum bags or rolls:

  1. Prepare the Bag: Place the food item inside a LAICA vacuum bag, leaving at least 6-8 cm of space between the food and the open end of the bag.
  2. Position the Bag: Place the open end of the bag flat into the vacuum chamber, ensuring it is centered over the sealing bar and within the drip tray area. Make sure the bag is smooth and free of wrinkles.
  3. Close the Lid: Lower the lid and press down firmly on both sides until the locking handle engages with a click.
  4. Select Sealing Mode: Choose the appropriate sealing mode (Dry, Moist, or Wet) based on the food's moisture content.
  5. Start Vacuum and Seal: Press the 'Automatic/Stop' button. The machine will automatically vacuum the air and then seal the bag.
  6. Release and Remove: Once the process is complete, the indicator light will turn off. Press the release buttons (if present) or lift the locking handle to open the lid and remove the sealed bag.

The LAICA VT3220 offers a Triple Sealing Setting to ensure optimal sealing for various food types:

  • Dry: For foods with no moisture.
  • Moist: For foods with minimal moisture.
  • Wet: For foods with higher moisture content or liquids, ensuring a secure seal. This mode is ideal for Sous Vide cooking.

5.3. Partial Vacuum and Adjustable Suction

For delicate or fragile foods that could be crushed by a full vacuum, use the Partial Vacuum function or adjust the suction power:

  • Partial Vacuum: Press the 'Pulse' button to manually control the vacuum process. Press and hold to vacuum, release to stop. Once the desired vacuum level is reached, press the 'Seal' button to seal the bag.
  • Adjustable Suction Power: The machine may offer 'Normal' and 'Gentle' suction settings. Select 'Gentle' for softer foods.

5.4. Rapid Marinating Function

The rapid marinating function significantly reduces marinating time by cycling between vacuum and air release within a compatible container.

  1. Prepare Container: Place food and marinade into a LAICA vacuum container. Close the container lid securely.
  2. Connect Hose: Connect one end of the accessory hose to the accessory port on the vacuum sealer and the other end to the port on the container lid.
  3. Start Marinating: Press the 'Marinate' button. The machine will perform 5 cycles of vacuum and air release to infuse the marinade into the food.
  4. Disconnect: Once the cycle is complete, disconnect the hose and store the container.

  3. Start Vacuum: Press the 'Canister' button. The machine will automatically remove air from the container.
  4. Disconnect: Once the vacuum process is complete, the machine will stop. Disconnect the hose from both the machine and the container.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

6.1. Cleaning the Liquid Collection Tray

The removable liquid collection tray prevents liquids from entering the machine's pump. It should be cleaned regularly, especially after sealing moist or wet foods.

  1. Remove Tray: Gently pull out the liquid collection tray from the vacuum chamber.
  2. Wash: Wash the tray with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Dry and Reinsert: Ensure the tray is completely dry before reinserting it into the machine.

6.2. Replacing Gaskets

The gaskets are crucial for maintaining an airtight seal. Over time, they may wear out. The LAICA VT3220 features easily replaceable gaskets.

  1. Inspect Gaskets: Periodically check the gaskets for any signs of wear, cracks, or deformation.
  2. Remove Old Gaskets: The gaskets are held in place by pressure. Gently pull them out of their grooves.
  3. Install New Gaskets: Insert new LAICA replacement gaskets into the grooves, ensuring they are seated correctly and evenly.

6.3. General Cleaning

To clean the exterior of the appliance, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water. Ensure the sealing bar is clean and free of food debris for optimal performance.
