1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the DEVAISE 2-Drawer Farmhouse File Cabinet. This lateral filing cabinet is designed to provide functional storage with a distinctive farmhouse aesthetic, suitable for various home and office settings. It features two spacious drawers, a lockable top drawer for security, and a sturdy top surface capable of supporting a printer. This manual provides essential information for assembly, safe operation, and maintenance to ensure long-lasting use of your product.
2. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before assembly and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the product.
- Anti-Tilting Device: The cabinet is equipped with an interlocking safety mechanism that allows only one drawer to open at a time. This prevents the cabinet from tipping forward. Always ensure this mechanism functions correctly.
- Wall-Mounted Hardware: For maximum safety, it is highly recommended to install the provided wall-mounted hardware to secure the cabinet to a wall, especially in households with children or pets.
- Weight Limit: The top shelf can hold up to 110 pounds (50 kg). Do not exceed this weight limit to prevent structural damage or tipping.
- Safety Label: A safety label is affixed to the product to meet anti-tip regulations. This label is applied with strong adhesive. If removal is necessary, gently warm the edges with a hairdryer and peel slowly to minimize potential surface damage. This is not a product quality issue.
- Keep small parts and packaging materials away from children during assembly.
3. Package Contents
Before beginning assembly, verify that all components and hardware are present and undamaged. If any parts are missing or damaged, please contact DEVAISE customer support.

4. Assembly Instructions
Assembly typically requires two people and basic tools (screwdriver, hammer). Follow the step-by-step diagrams provided in your physical assembly guide. The general process involves:
- Unpack and Identify: Carefully unpack all components and lay them out on a clean, soft surface to prevent scratches. Identify each part using the labels.
- Assemble the Frame: Connect the side panels to the top and bottom panels using the provided hardware. Do not fully tighten screws until the entire frame is aligned.
- Install Drawer Slides: Attach the drawer slides to the cabinet frame and the drawer boxes according to the instructions. Ensure they are level and aligned for smooth operation.
- Assemble Drawers: Construct the drawer boxes, attach the drawer fronts, and install the handles.
- Insert Drawers: Carefully insert the assembled drawers into the cabinet frame. Test for smooth operation.
- Install Lock: Attach the lock mechanism to the top drawer as indicated in the instructions.
- Attach Anti-Tip Device: Secure the anti-tip wall-mounting hardware to the back of the cabinet and to a wall stud.

Figure 4.2: Full-Extension Drawer Mechanism. This image illustrates the drawer's full extension capability, which is achieved through proper installation of the drawer slides during assembly.
5. Operating Instructions
- Drawer Operation: The drawers feature full-extension slides for easy access to contents. Pull the metal handles to open and push to close.
- Locking Mechanism: The top drawer is equipped with a lock. Insert the key into the lock on the top drawer and turn to secure or unlock. Always remove the key after locking.
- Anti-Tip Interlock System: Due to the integrated safety mechanism, only one drawer can be opened at a time. Attempting to open both drawers simultaneously will engage the interlock, preventing the second drawer from opening. This is a safety feature, not a malfunction.
- File Organization: The drawers are designed to accommodate Legal, Letter, and A4 size files. Adjust the hanging file frames as needed for your document sizes.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the cabinet surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the finish.
- Dusting: Regularly dust the cabinet to maintain its appearance.
- Hardware Check: Periodically check all screws and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Retighten if necessary.
- Drawer Slides: If drawers become stiff, a small amount of silicone lubricant can be applied to the drawer slides.
7. Troubleshooting
- Drawers do not slide smoothly:
- Ensure drawer slides are correctly installed and aligned.
- Check that all screws securing the slides are tightened.
- Verify that the cabinet frame is square and not warped. Loosen frame screws slightly, adjust, then retighten.
- Cabinet wobbles:
- Ensure all assembly screws are fully tightened.
- Verify the cabinet is placed on a level surface.
- Install the wall-mounted anti-tip hardware for added stability.
- Safety label residue after removal:
- As mentioned in Safety Information, gently warm the label with a hairdryer before peeling. Any remaining residue can often be removed with a small amount of rubbing alcohol or a specialized adhesive remover, applied carefully to an inconspicuous area first.
