1. Introduction

The Foxgard FNL-01 Fingerprint Door Lock is a versatile 5-in-1 biometric smart lock designed for enhanced security and convenience. It offers multiple unlocking methods including fingerprint, keypad code, mobile application, IC card, and traditional mechanical key. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and user satisfaction.

3. Installation

The Foxgard FNL-01 is designed for easy installation on most standard US doors. A screwdriver is typically the only tool required. No drilling or wiring is needed for standard installations.

3.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Door Thickness: Ensure your door thickness is between 35mm (1.38 in) and 55mm (2.17 in).
  • Door Handing: The lock is compatible with both left and right-handed doors.
  • Latch Backset: The latch is adjustable for 60mm (2.36 in) or 70mm (2.76 in) backsets. Adjust if necessary to match your door.

3.2 Installation Steps

  1. Install the Latch: Insert the single latch into the door edge. Ensure the square hole in the latch is horizontal. Secure it with the provided screws.
  2. Install the Front Handle:
    • Route the wiring through the square spindle.
    • Insert the square spindle into the square spindle hole on the front handle, ensuring it fits squarely without tilting.
    • Align the front handle with the door and the latch.
  3. Install the Back Handle:
    • Connect the wiring from the front handle to the corresponding port on the back handle.
    • Secure the back handle to the door using the provided screws, ensuring a snug fit.
    • Insert 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included) into the battery compartment. Note: Do not use rechargeable batteries or attempt to charge batteries via the Type-C port, as this may damage internal components.
    • Attach the battery cover.
  4. Test Functionality: After installation, test the handle's movement and ensure the latch retracts smoothly.

4. Operating Instructions

The Foxgard FNL-01 offers five convenient ways to unlock your door:

4.1 Fingerprint Unlock

Place your registered fingerprint firmly on the sensor. The lock will verify your fingerprint and unlock the door. The LED indicator will turn green upon successful verification.

4.2 Keypad Code Unlock

Enter your registered passcode on the backlit keypad. The lock will unlock upon correct entry. The LED indicator will turn green upon successful verification.

Anti-Peep Code

To enhance security, you can enter random digits before or after your actual passcode. The lock will still recognize the correct sequence within the longer entry, protecting your code from onlookers.

4.3 IC Card Unlock

Hold a registered IC card flat against the card recognition area on the lock. The lock will beep and unlock if the card is recognized.

4.4 Mechanical Key Unlock

In case of emergency or battery depletion, you can use the provided mechanical keys to unlock the door manually. Insert the key into the keyhole located at the bottom of the handle and turn to unlock.

4.5 Mobile App Control (Tuya Smart)

The Foxgard FNL-01 lock can be managed via the Tuya Smart app, offering advanced control and monitoring features.

  • Download & Register: Download the Tuya Smart app from Google Play or the App Store and register an account.
  • Add Your Lock: Turn on your phone's Bluetooth. Open the Tuya Smart app, click "+" or "Add Device". The app will automatically detect "EC-LOCK". Click "Add" and follow the on-screen prompts to name your lock.
  • Member Management: Add multiple fingerprints, passcodes, and IC cards for different users. You can set permanent or time-limited access.
  • Temporary Codes: Generate one-time, time-limited, or dynamic passcodes for guests, cleaners, or delivery personnel.
  • Remote Unlock & Voice Control: For remote unlocking and voice control (e.g., with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant), a Foxgard Gateway (sold separately) is required. Pair the gateway with your lock via the app.
  • Access Logs: Monitor access history and user activity directly from the app.

4.6 Auto-Lock Feature

The lock can be configured to automatically lock after a set delay (adjustable from 5 seconds to 2 minutes 59 seconds). This feature provides peace of mind, ensuring your door is always secured.

4.7 Indoor Privacy Lock (Electronic Deadlock)

Activate the built-in electronic deadlock from the inside for added privacy. When active, the door cannot be opened from the outside even with valid credentials (fingerprint, code, IC card), ensuring your privacy in bedrooms, offices, or rentals.

4.8 Silent Mode

The lock features a silent mode to disable sound notifications, ideal for maintaining quiet environments, especially during nighttime.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The lock is powered by 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included). It offers long battery life and will provide low-battery alerts through the app and on the lock itself. Replace all four batteries when a low-battery alert is issued.

5.2 Emergency Power

In the event of complete battery depletion, the lock features a USB-C port for emergency power. Connect a power bank (not included) to this port to temporarily power the lock and gain access. Important: This port is for emergency power only and does not support charging the batteries. Do not connect to a wall outlet or any power source other than a power bank, as this may damage internal components.

5.3 Cleaning

Wipe the lock's surface with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronic components.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Handle Not Engaging: Ensure the lock is fully installed, batteries are inserted, and all wires are securely connected. The fingerprint handle only activates after full installation and battery power.
  • LED Indicator Meanings:
    • Green: Successfully Verified / Unlocked
    • Red: Verification Failed / Locked
    • Mixed Green and Red: Setup Mode
  • Keypad Unresponsive: Check battery levels. If the keypad is unresponsive or buttons are sticking, ensure the surface is clean and free from debris.
  • App Connectivity Issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and the lock is within range. If using a Gateway for remote access, ensure the Gateway is online and connected to Wi-Fi.
