3. Setup and Installation

This section provides general guidelines for installing the SilverStone XE360PDD. Due to the specialized nature of server motherboards and the requirement for separately purchased CPU brackets, specific steps may vary. Always refer to your motherboard's manual and the instructions provided with your CPU bracket kit for detailed, socket-specific installation procedures.

Important Considerations:

  • CPU Brackets: Ensure you have the correct CPU mounting brackets for your specific server CPU sockets (e.g., LGA3647, LGA4189, etc.). These are not included with the XE360PDD and must be purchased separately.
  • Case Compatibility: Verify that your server chassis has adequate space for a 360mm radiator and three 120mm fans, especially considering the 38mm thickness of the radiator.
  • Thermal Paste: Apply a high-quality thermal paste to the CPU Integrated Heat Spreaders (IHS) before mounting the water blocks.
  • Power Connections: Ensure proper power connections for the pumps and fans to the motherboard or a dedicated fan controller.

General Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare Motherboard: Install your server CPUs onto the motherboard sockets.
  2. Install CPU Brackets: Attach the appropriate CPU mounting brackets to your motherboard around the CPU sockets as per the bracket kit instructions.
  3. Apply Thermal Paste: Apply a small, pea-sized amount of thermal paste to the center of each CPU's IHS.
  4. Mount Water Blocks: Carefully place each water block onto its respective CPU, aligning with the mounting holes on the brackets. Secure them evenly using the provided screws, tightening in a cross pattern until snug.
  5. Mount Radiator and Fans: Install the three 120mm fans onto the radiator. Then, mount the radiator assembly to an available 360mm fan mount location in your server chassis (e.g., top, front, or side panel).
  6. Connect Cables: Connect the power cables from the pumps and fans to the appropriate headers on your motherboard or fan controller. Refer to your motherboard manual for fan and pump header locations.
  7. Cable Management: Route cables neatly to ensure proper airflow within the chassis.
  8. Initial Power On: Before closing the chassis, perform a brief power-on test to ensure fans spin and pumps operate (listen for a subtle hum or feel for vibrations in the tubes).

Safety Warning: Always disconnect power from your system before installing or removing any components. Handle components with care to avoid damage.

4. Operating Instructions

The SilverStone XE360PDD is designed for continuous, reliable operation once properly installed.

  • System Power On: Power on your server system as you normally would. The AIO cooler will automatically begin circulating coolant and operating its fans to dissipate heat from the CPUs.
  • Monitoring: It is recommended to use system monitoring software (e.g., BIOS/UEFI utilities, operating system tools, or third-party applications) to observe CPU temperatures and fan speeds, especially during initial setup and under heavy workloads.
  • Normal Operation: Expect stable CPU temperatures within safe operating limits, even under sustained load, thanks to the XE360PDD's high cooling capacity.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SilverStone XE360PDD liquid cooler.

  • Dust Removal: Periodically inspect the radiator fins and fans for dust accumulation. Use compressed air to gently blow dust away from the fins and fan blades. Ensure fans are held stationary during cleaning to prevent over-spinning.
  • Fan Cleaning: If dust buildup is significant on fan blades, carefully wipe them clean with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Hose and Connection Inspection: Occasionally check the hoses and connections for any signs of wear, kinks, or leaks. While AIOs are sealed systems, visual inspection is a good practice.
  • System Environment: Operate your server in a clean, well-ventilated environment to minimize dust intake and maintain optimal cooling efficiency.

Note: The XE360PDD is a closed-loop system and does not require coolant refills or maintenance. Do not attempt to open the water blocks or radiator.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SilverStone XE360PDD, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
High CPU Temperatures
  • Insufficient thermal paste application.
  • Water blocks not properly seated.
  • Fans not spinning or spinning too slowly.
  • Radiator fins clogged with dust.
  • Pump not functioning.
  • Reapply thermal paste and remount water blocks.
  • Ensure water blocks are securely mounted with correct pressure.
  • Check fan power connections and BIOS/UEFI fan settings. Clean fans.
  • Clean radiator fins with compressed air.
  • Check pump power connection. Listen for pump operation. If no signs of life, contact support.
Fans Not Spinning
  • Loose or incorrect power connection.
  • Fan header disabled in BIOS/UEFI.
  • Faulty fan.
  • Verify fan connections to motherboard headers.
  • Check BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure fan headers are enabled and configured correctly.
  • Test fan with a different header or system. Replace if faulty.
Unusual Noise (Gurgling/Whining)
  • Air bubbles in the loop (gurgling).
  • Pump noise (whining).
  • Tilt the system gently to help trapped air bubbles move to the radiator.
  • Ensure the radiator is mounted higher than the CPU blocks if possible.
  • If pump noise persists and is excessive, contact support.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact SilverStone customer support for further assistance.
