3. Product Overview

The NEO NAS DS01Z sensor consists of two main components: the main body, which houses the Z-Wave module and battery, and the deputy body, which is a magnet. When these two parts are separated, the sensor detects an "open" state. When they are close together, it detects a "closed" state.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Gently slide open the back cover of the main sensor body.
  2. Insert one CR2 battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the back cover securely.

4.2 Z-Wave Inclusion (Adding to Network)

To add the sensor to your Z-Wave network:

  1. Place your Z-Wave controller (hub) into inclusion mode (refer to your controller's manual for specific instructions).
  2. With the sensor's battery installed, press the tamper button (usually a small button inside the main unit) three times quickly.
  3. The sensor's LED indicator will flash to confirm inclusion. Once successfully added, the LED will stop flashing.
  4. Verify the sensor appears in your Z-Wave controller's device list.

4.3 Z-Wave Exclusion (Removing from Network)

To remove the sensor from your Z-Wave network:

  1. Place your Z-Wave controller (hub) into exclusion mode (refer to your controller's manual for specific instructions).
  2. Press the tamper button on the sensor three times quickly.
  3. The sensor's LED indicator will flash to confirm exclusion. Once successfully removed, the LED will stop flashing.

4.4 Mounting the Sensor

Choose a suitable location on your door or window frame. The main body and magnet should be mounted within 10mm of each other when the door/window is closed.

  1. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly.
  2. Using the provided adhesive tape, attach the main sensor body to the fixed part of the door/window frame.
  3. Attach the magnet (deputy body) to the moving part of the door/window, aligning it with the main sensor body. Ensure the alignment marks on both parts are facing each other.
  4. Alternatively, use the provided screws and wall anchors for a more permanent installation. Mark the screw holes, drill pilot holes if necessary, and secure both parts.
  5. Test the sensor by opening and closing the door/window to ensure your Z-Wave controller registers the state changes.

5. Operating Instructions

Once successfully installed and included in your Z-Wave network, the NEO NAS DS01Z sensor will automatically report its open/closed status to your Z-Wave controller.

  • Open Detection: When the main body and magnet separate (e.g., door opens), the sensor sends an "open" signal to the controller.
  • Closed Detection: When the main body and magnet come back together (e.g., door closes), the sensor sends a "closed" signal to the controller.
  • Automation: You can configure your Z-Wave controller to trigger various actions based on the sensor's status, such as sending notifications, activating alarms, or controlling lights.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

The sensor is powered by one CR2 battery with an estimated life of 2.2 years. Your Z-Wave controller should provide a low battery warning. To replace the battery:

  1. Gently slide open the back cover of the main sensor body.
  2. Remove the old CR2 battery.
  3. Insert a new CR2 battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the back cover securely.
  5. It may be necessary to wake up the device or re-poll it from your Z-Wave controller to update the battery status.

6.2 Cleaning

Wipe the sensor with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the device.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Sensor not detecting open/close:
    • Ensure the main body and magnet are aligned correctly and within 10mm of each other when closed.
    • Check the battery level and replace if necessary.
    • Verify the sensor is properly included in your Z-Wave network.
  • Sensor not pairing with Z-Wave controller:
    • Ensure your Z-Wave controller is in inclusion mode.
    • Make sure the sensor is within range of your Z-Wave controller or a repeater.
    • Try performing an exclusion first, then attempt inclusion again.
    • Check the battery level.
  • Low battery warning:
    • Replace the CR2 battery as soon as possible to ensure continuous operation.
