2.2 Burr System

The Whirly 01S features TIMEMORE patented S2C-420-EI stainless steel octagonal burrs. These burrs are designed to deliver elevated sweetness and richer crema, making them suitable for espresso and filter coffee. They are made from SUS420 hardened stainless steel, manufactured with a 5-axis CNC process, and have an industry-standard sharpness of 58 HRC.
3. Setup
3.1 Initial Charge
Before first use, fully charge the grinder. Connect the included Type-C cable to the charging port and a suitable USB power source. The power indicator will show orange during charging and turn white when fully charged. A full charge typically takes three hours.

3.2 Loading Coffee Beans
The innovative swivel hopper design allows for easy loading. Gently twist the hopper to open it. A gentle well guides beans into the hopper. The catch cup accommodates up to 50g of coffee beans. For espresso or lightly roasted coffee beans, it is recommended to keep the quantity within 30g for optimal performance.

4. Operation
4.1 Adjusting Grind Settings
The grind adjustment dial is located at the bottom of the grinder. It offers 30 precise settings with 0.025 mm adjustments per click.
- Locate the Grind Adjustment Dial: The dial is at the bottom of the WHIRLY grinder.
- Tightening the Dial: Gently twist the dial towards the "FINE" direction. Use moderate force; avoid excessive pressure. When the dial is turned to the tightest position (towards FINE), this is the 0 setting, suitable for the finest espresso grind.
- Adjusting the Grind Level: After the dial is fully tightened, adjust it to the desired grind setting by turning it towards the COARSE side. Each click towards COARSE represents one setting. Continue counting each click until you reach the desired level.

4.2 Grind Setting Table
| Brew Method | Grind Range (Clicks from 0) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Espresso | 0.1-0.7 | Very fine grind. |
| Moka Pot | 0.6-0.8 | Medium fine grind. |
| Pour-Over | 1.7-2.1 | Medium coarse grind. |
| French Press | 2.3-2.7 | Coarse grind. |
Note: These are recommended ranges. Optimal settings may vary based on coffee bean type and personal preference.
4.3 Grinding Process
After loading beans and setting the grind size, press the power button to start grinding. The grinder will automatically stop once the grind is complete (no longer detects beans in the hopper). The motor is designed for high efficiency, grinding an 18g espresso dose in approximately 90 seconds and a 15g pour-over dose in about 30 seconds.

For continuous grinding, do not exceed approximately 13 consecutive sessions for pour-over coffee or 6 sessions for espresso, as this may trigger the overheat protection system.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your grinder. A cleaning brush is included for maintenance. The design allows for easy cleaning without disassembly.
- Use the provided brush to remove coffee grounds from the burrs and catch cup after each use.
- Wipe the exterior of the grinder with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the grinder in water.
- Ensure the charging port cover is securely closed to prevent dust and moisture ingress.
6. Troubleshooting
The Whirly 01S is equipped with smart features to protect the machine and ensure smooth operation.
- Grinder stops unexpectedly:
- Auto Shut-off: The grinder automatically powers down once the grind is complete (no beans detected).
- Overheat Protection: If the motor overheats (e.g., after too many consecutive grinding sessions), the grinder will automatically shut off. Allow it to cool down before resuming operation.
- Clog Protection: If a jam occurs, the grinder will stop and reverse up to three times to clear the obstruction. If the jam persists after three attempts, the grinder will shut off. Clear any visible obstructions manually (ensure the grinder is off and unplugged if possible, or battery is low).
- Power Indicator shows Red: This indicates a fault. Refer to the troubleshooting section or contact customer support.
- Inconsistent Grind: Ensure the grind adjustment dial is set correctly and consistently. Clean the burrs regularly to prevent buildup affecting grind consistency.
