3. Setup
3.1. Connectivity Options
The Varmilo VA80 keyboard supports three connection modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2.4 GHz wireless.

3.2. Wired Connection
- Locate the USB-C port on the keyboard.
- Connect one end of the provided USB-C cable to the keyboard and the other end to an available USB-A port on your computer.
- Ensure the connectivity switch on the side of the keyboard is set to the wired mode (usually indicated by a cable icon or 'W').
- The keyboard will be automatically recognized by your operating system.
3.3. Bluetooth Connection
- Ensure the connectivity switch on the side of the keyboard is set to Bluetooth mode (usually indicated by a Bluetooth icon or 'B').
- On your computer or device, enable Bluetooth and search for new devices.
- The keyboard should appear as "Varmilo VA80" or similar. Select it to pair.
- If prompted, enter the pairing code displayed on your screen using the keyboard and press Enter.
- The keyboard can connect to up to three Bluetooth devices. Refer to the full manual for specific key combinations to switch between paired devices (e.g., Fn + 1, Fn + 2, Fn + 3).
3.4. 2.4 GHz Wireless Connection
This keyboard supports 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity for a low-latency experience. A 2.4 GHz dongle is typically included with the keyboard.
- Plug the 2.4 GHz USB dongle into an available USB-A port on your computer.
- Ensure the connectivity switch on the side of the keyboard is set to 2.4 GHz mode (usually indicated by a wireless icon or '2.4G').
- The keyboard should automatically connect to the dongle.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Basic Functions
- Compatibility: Compatible with Windows and MacOS.
- Polling Rate: Achieves a 1000 Hz polling rate in wired and 2.4 GHz modes, ensuring latency within 1ms.
- Battery: Features a 4400mAh battery for extended wireless use.
4.2. RGB Lighting Control
The keyboard features customizable RGB backlighting. Specific key combinations (Fn + key) are used to cycle through lighting modes, adjust brightness, and change colors. Refer to the full Varmilo software or manual for detailed RGB customization options.
4.3. Keycap and Switch Features
- Keycaps: Equipped with five-sided Dye Sub PBT keycaps, known for their durability and resistance to shine.
- Hotswap Sockets: The keyboard features hotswap sockets, allowing users to easily change mechanical switches without soldering. Use the provided switch puller for removal and insertion.

4.4. Ergonomics and Design
- Gasket Mount: Features a leaf-spring gasket mounted structure for improved typing feel and acoustics.
- Acoustic Package: Includes a premium 5-layer foam package (Poron, PET, IXPE, cotton, silicone) for enhanced sound dampening.
- Kickstand: Two-stage kickstand allows for height adjustment, providing 5°, 8.5°, and 12° typing angles.
- Nameplates: Two magnetic plastic nameplates are included, located above the arrow keys and the Nav cluster. Optional magnesium alloy nameplates may be available.

4.5. Customization and Programming
The keyboard is programmable with VIA software and will have future support through Varmilo's VA web driver, allowing for key remapping and macro creation.
- Download the VIA software from the official Varmilo website or the VIA website.
- Connect the keyboard in wired mode to access VIA programming.
- Follow the software instructions to customize key assignments and lighting effects.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
- Keycaps: Use a soft, damp cloth with mild soap and water to clean the keycaps. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching. For deeper cleaning, remove keycaps using the provided keycap puller.
- Keyboard Body: Wipe the keyboard body with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Dust: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps and switches.
5.2. Battery Care
- To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- Charge the keyboard using the provided USB-C cable connected to a standard USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, wall adapter).
- Store the keyboard in a cool, dry place if not in use for extended periods.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1. Keyboard Not Responding
- Wired Mode: Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable. Verify the connectivity switch is in wired mode.
- Wireless Modes (Bluetooth/2.4 GHz): Check if the keyboard battery is charged. Ensure the connectivity switch is in the correct wireless mode. For Bluetooth, re-pair the device. For 2.4 GHz, ensure the dongle is properly inserted and try a different USB port.
- Driver Issues: For Windows, check Device Manager for any keyboard-related issues. For MacOS, ensure necessary permissions are granted.
6.2. Keys Not Registering or Double-Typing
- This may indicate a faulty switch. Since the keyboard is hotswap, you can replace the switch. Use the switch puller to carefully remove the problematic switch and insert a new one.
- Ensure the switch is fully seated in the socket.
6.3. RGB Lighting Not Working
- Check if the lighting is turned off or set to minimum brightness using the keyboard's function keys.
- Ensure the keyboard firmware is up to date.
- If using VIA, verify that lighting settings are correctly configured.
