Introduction
This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your VOLTCRAFT PM-41 USB Tester. This device is designed for testing and measuring the performance of various USB devices, including USB chargers, power banks, cables, and other USB-powered equipment. It can display measurements for voltage, current, capacity, energy, and the equivalent resistance of the circuit. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device.
Product Overview
The VOLTCRAFT PM-41 is a compact and versatile USB tester featuring both USB-C and USB-A connections. It provides real-time data on your USB power delivery.
Key Features:
- USB-C and USB-A input/output connections for broad compatibility.
- Measures input voltage from 4 V DC to 24 V DC.
- Measures input current for USB-C: 0.05 A to 5.00 A.
- Measures input current for USB-A: 0.05 A to 3.00 A.
- Displays voltage (V), current (A), capacity (mAh), energy (Wh), and time.
- Compact and portable design.
Components:
The device consists of a main unit with a display, two integrated input cables (USB-C and USB-A), and two output ports (USB-C and USB-A).

Figure 2: Angled view of the VOLTCRAFT PM-41 USB Tester, highlighting the integrated USB-C and USB-A input cables and the corresponding output ports on the device body. This view illustrates the connectivity options.

Figure 3: Back view of the VOLTCRAFT PM-41 USB Tester. This side displays regulatory marks (CE, UKCA) and basic input/output specifications for both USB-A and USB-C ports, including voltage and current ranges, and capacity measurement range.
Setup
- Connect the Power Source: Plug the integrated USB-A or USB-C input cable of the VOLTCRAFT PM-41 into your USB power source (e.g., wall charger, power bank, computer USB port). The tester's display should illuminate, showing initial voltage readings.
- Connect the Device to be Tested: Connect the USB device you wish to test (e.g., smartphone, tablet, USB fan) to one of the output ports on the VOLTCRAFT PM-41 (either USB-A or USB-C, depending on your device's cable).
- Ensure a Load: For accurate current and power measurements, ensure that the connected USB device is actively drawing power (i.e., it is charging or operating). If no load is connected, the current reading will be zero.
The tester will automatically begin displaying real-time measurements once connected.
Operating Instructions
The VOLTCRAFT PM-41 features a clear display and two control buttons: 'Mode' and 'Read'.
Display Readings:
- VDD (V): Displays the current voltage in Volts.
- Cur (A): Displays the current draw in Amperes.
- mAh: Displays the accumulated electrical charge (capacity) in milliampere-hours. This value accumulates over time.
- Time: Displays the elapsed time since the measurement began.
- Wh: Displays the accumulated electrical energy in Watt-hours. This value accumulates over time.
- Equivalent Resistance (Ω): This value is typically calculated from voltage and current (V/A) and may be displayed in some modes.
Button Functions:
- Mode Button: Press this button to cycle through different display modes or measurement parameters.
- Read Button: Press and hold this button for a few seconds to reset accumulated data such as mAh, Wh, and Time.
Note: The tester automatically starts measuring when a power source and a load are connected. Ensure stable connections for accurate readings.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the casing or display.
- Storage: Store the VOLTCRAFT PM-41 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it away from dust and moisture.
- Handling: Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts, which can damage internal components.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Display does not light up. | No power source connected or power source is faulty. | Ensure the USB tester is properly connected to a working USB power source. Try a different power source. |
| Current (Cur) reading is 0.00A. | No USB device connected or the connected device is not drawing power. | Connect a USB device that requires power (e.g., a phone that needs charging). Ensure the device is turned on or actively charging. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Loose connections, faulty cables, or device malfunction. | Check all connections for tightness. Try different USB cables. If the problem persists, the tester or the connected device might be faulty. |
| mAh/Wh/Time values are not resetting. | 'Read' button not pressed correctly. | Press and hold the 'Read' button for a few seconds to reset the accumulated data. |
