1. Introduction
The POROMETISTO FT01 is a precision instrument designed to accurately measure the moisture content in various types of brake fluid, including DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1. Regular testing of brake fluid is crucial for vehicle safety, as excessive moisture can reduce braking efficiency and lead to system corrosion. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use, maintenance, and care of your FT01 Brake Fluid Liquid Tester.
Key Features:
- Built-in calibration for accurate detection of DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1 fluids.
- Detection range of 0% - 4% moisture with an accuracy of up to ±0.3%.
- Three-color backlight display and buzzer reminders for clear results.
- 8.5-inch corrosion-resistant metal probe for flexible operation in confined spaces.
- Integrated LED flashlight for use in low-light conditions.
- Automatic shutoff, data hold function, and low battery indicator.
2. What's in the Box
Upon opening your product packaging, please ensure all the following items are present:

- Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
- To power on: Press and hold the “Power” button (red button with power symbol) for approximately 2 seconds until the display illuminates.
- To power off: Press and hold the “Power” button again for approximately 2 seconds. The device also features an automatic shutoff after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
4.2 Selecting Brake Fluid Type (DOT3, DOT4, DOT5.1)
The FT01 tester supports multiple brake fluid types. Ensure you select the correct type for accurate readings.
- After powering on, the device will default to DOT3.
- Press the “F” button (Function button) to cycle through DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1. The selected fluid type will be indicated on the display.

4.3 Performing a Test
Follow these steps to test your brake fluid:
- Prepare the Probe: Ensure the metal probe is clean and dry before each use. Wipe it with a clean cloth.
- Access Brake Fluid Reservoir: Locate your vehicle's brake fluid reservoir and carefully remove the cap.
- Immerse the Probe: Gently immerse the metal part of the FT01 probe into the brake fluid for approximately 3 seconds. Ensure the probe tips are fully submerged.
- Read Results: The display will show the moisture percentage. The backlight color and buzzer will indicate the fluid's condition (refer to Section 5).
- Remove and Clean: Remove the probe from the fluid and immediately clean it thoroughly with a dry cloth to prevent corrosion and ensure accuracy for future tests. Replace the brake fluid reservoir cap securely.

4.4 Data Hold Function
To temporarily freeze the displayed measurement, press the “H/🔆” button (Hold/Flashlight button) briefly. The “HOLD” icon will appear on the screen. Press it again to release the hold function.
4.5 Flashlight Function

- To turn off the flashlight: Press and hold the “H/🔆” button again for approximately 2 seconds.

5. Interpreting Results
The FT01 tester provides clear visual and auditory indicators of brake fluid quality based on moisture content:
| Moisture Content | Backlight Color | Buzzer | Status | Action Required |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0% - 2% | Green | None | Good / Normal | No action required. |
| 2% - 3% | Yellow | Slow Beep | Warning / Replace Soon | Consider replacing brake fluid. |
| > 3% | Red | Fast Beep | Critical / Replace Immediately | Replace brake fluid immediately. |

6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning the Probe
After each use, it is essential to clean the metal probe thoroughly. Wipe the probe with a clean, dry cloth to remove any brake fluid residue. This prevents corrosion and ensures the accuracy of future measurements.
6.2 Storage
Store the FT01 tester in its original box or a protective case in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
7. Precautions
- Always protect the test head. If the metal probe is corroded, scratched, or oxidized, it may affect the detection accuracy.
- After testing the liquid, always clean the test head first; otherwise, residual fluid may affect subsequent test results.
- Brake fluid is corrosive. Avoid contact with skin and vehicle paint. If contact occurs, wash immediately with plenty of water.
- Keep the device out of reach of children.
- Do not disassemble the device; refer to qualified personnel for repairs.
