2. Safety Information

3.1 Front Panel Controls

  • MIC/LINE Inputs (Channels 1-4): XLR and 1/4'' jacks for microphones or line-level instruments.
  • 48V Phantom Power Button: Activates phantom power for condenser microphones.
  • TRIM Knob: Adjusts input gain for each channel.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your BOMGE Audio Interface Mixer:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the mixer from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the mixer on a stable, flat, and well-ventilated surface.
  3. Power Connection: Ensure the mixer's power switch is OFF. Connect the provided power cable to the AC INPUT on the rear panel and then to a suitable power outlet (110V).
  4. Speaker Connection: Connect your passive speakers to the OUTPUT A and OUTPUT B (XLR/AUX 6.35) jacks on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity.
  5. Input Connections:
    • Microphones: Connect microphones to the XLR or 1/4'' MIC/LINE inputs. If using condenser microphones, ensure 48V phantom power is OFF before connecting, then activate it once connected.
    • Instruments/Line Devices: Connect instruments or line-level devices to the 1/4'' MIC/LINE inputs or the RAC INPUT.
  6. Output Connections (Optional): If connecting to external recording devices or additional amplifiers, use the MAIN OUTPUTS (XLR) or RAC OUTPUT.
  7. Headphones: Connect headphones to the PHONES jack for monitoring.
  8. Initial Power On: Once all connections are secure, switch the POWER button to ON. The display will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Audio Mixing

  1. Gain Adjustment (TRIM): For each active channel, speak or play into the microphone/instrument. Adjust the TRIM knob until the PEAK LED flashes only occasionally, indicating optimal input level without clipping.
  2. Equalization (3-Band EQ): Use the HIGH, MID, and LOW knobs to shape the tone of each channel. Adjust to enhance clarity or reduce unwanted frequencies.
  3. Channel Volume: Use the individual channel volume faders (1-4) to set the relative loudness of each input.
  4. Pan Control (PAN): Adjust the PAN knob to position the sound of each channel within the stereo field (left to right).
  5. Master Volume: Use the MAIN L/R faders and the Total Control Button to set the overall output volume. Observe the total volume signal light display to prevent clipping.

5.2 DSP Effects

The mixer features a 24-bit digital effects processor with 256 preset effects.

  1. Selecting Effects: Use the DSP effect selection knob to browse through the 256 available effects. The display will show the effect number and type.
  2. Applying Effects: Use the AUX1/AUX2 FX knob on each channel to send a portion of that channel's signal to the effects processor.
  3. Effect Return Volume: Adjust the dedicated Effect Fader to control the overall volume of the processed effects returning to the main mix.
  4. FX Foot Switch: An optional foot switch can be connected to turn effects on or off.

5.3 Bluetooth Connectivity

The mixer allows wireless audio streaming from Bluetooth-enabled devices.

  1. Activate Bluetooth: Press the MODE button on the master function control section until "BT" or "Bluetooth" appears on the display.
  2. Pairing: On your mobile device (phone, tablet), search for Bluetooth devices and select "pmx-402b" (or similar name) to pair.
  3. Playback: Once paired, you can play audio from your device. Use the Play/Pause and Skip buttons on the mixer, or control playback directly from your device.
  4. Volume Control: Adjust the MP3/BT Fader to control the volume of the Bluetooth audio.

5.4 USB Playback and Recording

The USB port supports flash drive playback and recording, and can function as an audio interface for computers.

  1. USB Playback: Insert a USB flash drive containing audio files into the USB port. The mixer will automatically switch to USB mode or you can select it using the MODE button. Use the master function controls for playback. Adjust the MP3/BT Fader for volume.
  2. USB Recording: The mixer can record audio signals directly to a USB device. Refer to the display for recording status and controls.
  3. USB Audio Interface: Connect the mixer to a computer via the USB port. The mixer will function as a USB sound card, allowing you to record audio to your computer or play computer audio through the mixer. Drivers may be required for some operating systems.

5.5 Main Output Equalization

The 7-Band Stereo Graphic Equalizer allows for fine-tuning of the overall main output sound.

  • Adjust the faders for each frequency band to boost or cut specific frequencies in the main mix. This is useful for room correction or overall sound shaping.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the mixer. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive chemicals.
  • Dust: Regularly remove dust from ventilation openings using a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Storage: If storing the mixer for an extended period, disconnect all cables, turn off the power, and store it in a dry, cool place, preferably in its original packaging.
  • Fuses: If the unit does not power on, check the AC INPUT FUSE on the rear panel. Replace with a fuse of the same type and rating if necessary.
