Setup and Loading
Before first use, ensure you have appropriate .177 caliber pellets. This air pistol is a single-shot, bolt-action design, meaning it loads one pellet at a time directly into the breech.
Loading a Pellet:
- Locate the bolt on the top-rear of the pistol. Pull the bolt fully rearward to open the breech.
- Carefully insert one .177 caliber pellet into the breech. Ensure the pellet is seated correctly.
- Push the bolt fully forward to close the breech and seat the pellet in the barrel.

Operating Instructions
Pumping the Air Pistol:
The American Classic uses a pneumatic pump system. To build air pressure:
- Hold the pistol firmly by the grip.
- Swing the forearm pump handle (located under the barrel) all the way down and forward until it locks into place.
- Swing the pump handle back up and firmly close it against the barrel. This completes one pump stroke.
- Repeat this process for the desired number of pumps (up to 10 pumps for maximum velocity).

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Crosman American Classic air pistol.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a drop or two of Crosman Pellgunoil (or similar non-detergent oil) to the pump pins, pump seal, and the O-ring seal that touches the back of the pellet. This helps maintain smooth operation and prevents wear.
- Cleaning: Keep the barrel clean from lead residue. Use a cleaning rod and patches designed for .177 caliber airguns.
- Storage: Store the air pistol in a cool, dry place, unloaded and with the safety engaged.
- Avoid Dry Firing: Do not fire the air pistol without a pellet or BB loaded. Dry firing can damage internal components, especially the seals.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Loss of power/low velocity | Insufficient pumping, worn seals, or improper pellet seating. | Ensure full pump strokes (up to 10). Lubricate seals. Check pellet seating. If problem persists, seals may need replacement. |
| Pellet not firing | Safety engaged, no pellet loaded, or insufficient air pressure. | Disengage safety. Load a pellet. Pump the air pistol adequately. |
| Difficulty pumping | Lack of lubrication on pump mechanism. | Apply Pellgunoil to pump pins and seals. |
