- Plug and Play Operation: No internal battery required; the device powers directly from the vehicle's OBDII port.
- User-Friendly Interface: Features a large LCD display and four logical buttons for easy navigation and direct display of test results.
- DTC Lookup: Built-in code definitions eliminate the need for external searches.
- Multi-Language Support: Available in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese.
- Data Storage: Ability to save diagnostic data such as trouble codes, freeze frame data, and live data.
- Software Updates: Lifetime free software updates are provided to ensure compatibility and functionality.
2.2 Compatibility
The KW310 Car Scanner is compatible with most 1996 and newer OBD2 protocol vehicles, including US-based, EU-based, and Asian vehicles.

3. Setup
- Locate the OBDII Port: The OBDII port is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual if you cannot find it.
- Connect the Scanner: Plug the KW310 scanner's diagnostic cable into the vehicle's OBDII port. Ensure a secure connection.
- Power On: Turn the vehicle's ignition to the "ON" position (do not start the engine unless instructed by a specific diagnostic procedure). The scanner will automatically power on as it draws power directly from the vehicle's OBDII port.
- Language Selection: If prompted, select your preferred language from the available options (English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese).

4.1 Main Menu Functions

Figure 4.1: The KW310 Car Scanner's screen showing a list of OBD2 functions, each represented by an icon, including Read/Clear Codes, Live Data, I/M Readiness, and Freeze Frame.
- Read Codes: Displays Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the vehicle's computer. These codes indicate specific issues detected by the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system.
- Erase Codes: Clears all stored DTCs from the vehicle's computer. This action also turns off the Check Engine Light (MIL). Ensure any underlying issues are resolved before clearing codes, as they may reappear.
- Live Data: Shows real-time data from the vehicle's sensors, such as engine RPM, vehicle speed, oxygen sensor readings, and coolant temperature. This data can help diagnose intermittent problems.
- View Freeze Frame: Captures a snapshot of the vehicle's operating conditions at the moment a fault code was set. This data can provide valuable context for diagnosing the issue.
- I/M Readiness: Checks the status of the vehicle's emission-related monitoring systems to determine if they are ready for an emissions test.
- O2 Monitor Test: Retrieves oxygen sensor monitor test results for the most recently completed tests from the vehicle's onboard computer.
- On-Board Monitoring Test: Retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are continuously monitored by the vehicle's computer.
- Component Test: Allows for testing of specific components or systems within the vehicle.
- Vehicle Information: Displays the vehicle's identification number (VIN), calibration identification (CALID), and calibration verification number (CVN).
- Modules Present: Indicates which control modules are present in the vehicle and communicating with the scanner.
- Unit of Measure: Allows the user to select preferred units for data display (e.g., Celsius/Fahrenheit, Metric/Imperial).
4.2 DTC Lookup
The KW310 includes a built-in DTC lookup function. When a code is displayed, you can select the DTC Lookup option to view a detailed description of the code, eliminating the need to search online.

5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the scanner with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Software Updates: The manufacturer provides lifetime free software updates. Regularly check the manufacturer's website for the latest software versions to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with newer vehicles. Instructions for updating the software will be provided on the manufacturer's support page.
6. Troubleshooting
- Scanner Does Not Power On:
- Ensure the OBDII cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the vehicle's OBDII port.
- Verify that the vehicle's ignition is in the "ON" position.
- Check the vehicle's fuse for the OBDII port (consult your vehicle's owner's manual).
- Communication Error:
- Confirm the vehicle is OBDII compliant (most vehicles after 1996).
- Ensure the ignition is "ON" and the engine is off (unless performing specific tests).
- Try connecting the scanner to a different OBDII compliant vehicle to rule out scanner malfunction.
- Codes Reappear After Clearing:
Clearing codes only turns off the Check Engine Light; it does not fix the underlying problem. If codes reappear, it indicates that the issue causing the fault has not been resolved. Further diagnosis and repair are necessary. The scanner can only indicate that a module is faulty, not the specific damaged part.
