2. Safety Information
Always observe standard safety precautions when using electrical testing equipment. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the instrument.
- Ensure the instrument is in good working condition before use.
- Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or if the insulation on the test leads is compromised.
- Always disconnect power to the circuit under test before making connections.
- Avoid touching exposed conductors or circuit components during testing.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as insulated gloves and safety glasses.
- Do not exceed the maximum input ratings for any function.
- Refer to local electrical codes and safety regulations.

4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The MH11 requires 8*AA batteries for operation. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit, open it, insert the batteries observing polarity, and close the compartment securely.
4.2 Connecting Test Leads
Connect the red and black test leads to the appropriate input terminals on the meter. Ensure a secure connection for accurate readings.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
Press the POWER button to turn the unit on. The meter will automatically shut down after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
5.2 Insulation Resistance Testing
- Select the desired test voltage (250V, 500V, or 1000V) using the range selector.
- Connect the test leads to the circuit or component under test.
- Press and hold the TEST button to initiate the insulation test. The display will show the resistance value in MΩ.
- For continuous testing, press the LOCK button while holding TEST. Press TEST again to unlock.
- Observe the reading. A high resistance value indicates good insulation.
5.3 Voltage Measurement (ACV)
The MH11 can also measure AC voltage up to 750V.
- Set the range selector to 750V~.
- Connect the red probe to the 'L' terminal and the black probe to the 'E' terminal.
- Apply the probes to the AC voltage source. The display will show the AC voltage reading.

Figure 5: Demonstrates a phase-to-phase insulation test (left) where the red pen is at the E end and black pen at the L end, and an output DC voltage multimeter test (right) where the red pen is in the E terminal and black in the L terminal to measure the output DC voltage of the megohmmeter.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the meter is dry before storage or next use.
6.2 Battery Replacement
Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Refer to section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.
6.3 Storage
Store the meter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Display/Power On: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted.
- Inaccurate Readings: Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged. Verify the correct function and range are selected. Clean test points.
- "OL" or "1" on Display: This typically indicates an open circuit or a resistance value exceeding the meter's maximum range.
- Short Circuit Indication: If the meter shows a very low resistance (e.g., less than 0.5 MΩ) when connected to a neutral wire port, it indicates a short circuit. A normal instrument will show an infinite value when connected to the ground wire port.

Figure 6: Illustrates the difference between a short circuit reading (left, value less than 0.5 MΩ) and a normal instrument reading (right, infinite value) during insulation testing.
