1. Introduction

3. Setup

3.1 Physical Installation

The Tapo SolarCam 4K offers flexible mounting options. You can mount the camera and solar panel together or separately for optimal sunlight exposure.

  1. Choose a Location: Select a location that provides a clear view of the area you wish to monitor and receives ample direct sunlight for the solar panel.
  2. Mounting the Camera: Use the provided mounting template to mark drill holes. Secure the magnetic base to the wall using the mounting screws and anchors. The camera attaches magnetically to the base, allowing for easy adjustment.
  3. Mounting the Solar Panel: If mounting separately, use the solar panel bracket and mounting hardware. Ensure the solar panel is positioned to receive maximum direct sunlight throughout the day. The included 13 ft extension wire allows for flexible placement.
  4. Connect Solar Panel: Connect the solar panel cable to the camera. Ensure waterproof seals are properly used to protect the connection.

3.2 App Installation and Initial Configuration

The Tapo app is required for camera setup and operation.

  1. Download the Tapo App: Search for 'Tapo' in your mobile device's app store (iOS or Android) and download the application.
  2. Create/Log In to Tapo Account: Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new account or log in with an existing one.
  3. Add Your Camera: Tap the '+' icon in the app to add a new device. Select your Tapo SolarCam 4K model and follow the in-app instructions for pairing.
  4. Wi-Fi Connection: The camera supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. Connect the camera to your home Wi-Fi network as prompted by the app. For optimal performance, ensure your router is within range for the chosen band.
