Follow these steps to properly set up your FOTING Sand Filter Pump. Refer to the accompanying video for visual guidance.

Video 1: Step-by-step assembly and installation guide for the FOTING Sand Filter Pump.

  1. Prepare the Base: Attach the filter tank base to the pump base plate.
  2. Install Drain Piece: Secure the drain piece at the bottom of the filter tank.
  3. Insert Standpipe: Carefully insert the standpipe into the center of the filter tank.
  4. Add Filter Media: Fill the tank with the recommended amount of filter sand (66 lbs) or filter balls (200g included). Ensure the standpipe remains centered.
  5. Attach Multi-Port Valve: Clean the rim of the tank. Place the multi-port valve assembly onto the tank, ensuring the standpipe aligns with the opening in the valve.
  6. Secure Flange Clamp: Assemble the two halves of the flange clamp around the valve and tank, then secure tightly with the provided screws and nuts using the Allen wrench.
  7. Install Pressure Gauge: Apply sealing tape to the threads of the pressure gauge and screw it into the designated port on the multi-port valve.
  8. Position Pump: Place the pump securely onto the base plate next to the filter tank.
  9. Connect Hoses: Connect the pump to the multi-port valve using the provided flexible hose and hose clamps. Connect the pool's inlet and outlet hoses to the appropriate ports on the multi-port valve and pump, securing them with hose clamps. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  10. Electrical Connection: Ensure the pump is connected to a properly grounded, GFCI-protected electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

Your FOTING Sand Filter Pump features a 6-way valve for various operations and a built-in timer for automated filtration.

5.1 6-Way Valve Functions

The multi-port valve allows you to select different modes of operation. Always turn off the pump before changing valve positions.

6-Way Valve Functions Diagram

Figure 4: Overview of the 6-way valve settings.

  • FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water is cleaned through the filter media and returned to the pool.
  • BACKWASH: Reverses water flow to clean the filter media. Water is discharged to waste. Use when pressure gauge reads high.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out remaining debris from the filter media before returning to FILTER mode. Water is discharged to waste.
  • WASTE: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly to waste. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
  • CLOSED: Stops all water flow through the valve. Never use while the pump is running.
  • RECIRCULATE: Circulates pool water without filtering. Useful for mixing chemicals.

5.2 Timer Settings

The pump features a 24-hour dual-mode intelligent timing system with 10 time settings.

Figure 5: Control panel with timing options.

  • Single Cycle Mode: The pump runs for a set duration once per 24-hour period.
  • Continuous Cycle Mode: The pump runs continuously until manually turned off or a new timer setting is applied.
  • Refer to the control panel instructions for setting specific run times.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your FOTING Sand Filter Pump.

Easy to Maintain & Clean

Figure 7: Components designed for easy maintenance and cleaning.

  • Backwashing: When the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above its clean starting pressure, it's time to backwash.
    1. Turn off the pump.
    2. Set the 6-way valve to "BACKWASH".
    3. Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear (approx. 2-3 minutes).
    4. Turn off the pump.
  • Rinsing: After backwashing, always rinse the filter.
    1. Turn off the pump.
    2. Set the 6-way valve to "RINSE".
    3. Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds.
    4. Turn off the pump.
    5. Set the 6-way valve back to "FILTER" for normal operation.
  • Filter Basket Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the pump's filter basket to remove large debris.
    1. Turn off the pump and disconnect power.
    2. Open the clear cover of the filter basket.
    3. Remove and empty the basket. Rinse thoroughly.
    4. Replace the basket and secure the clear cover.
  • Winterization: For colder climates, drain all water from the pump and filter to prevent freezing damage. Store in a dry, protected area.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your FOTING Sand Filter Pump, consult the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump not starting or running. No power, tripped GFCI, motor issue.Check power connection, reset GFCI. If problem persists, contact support.
Low water flow or pressure.Clogged filter basket, dirty filter media, air in system, closed valve.Clean filter basket, backwash/rinse filter, check for air leaks, ensure valves are open.
Water not clearing.Insufficient filtration time, dirty filter media, improper chemical balance.Increase filtration time, backwash/rinse filter, test and adjust pool chemistry.
Water leaking from connections.Loose connections, worn O-rings/gaskets.Tighten hose clamps and fittings. Inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets if damaged.
Excessive noise from pump.Air in system, debris in impeller, motor bearing issue.Bleed air from system, check for debris in pump impeller (with power off), contact support if motor noise persists.
