2. Operating Instructions

2.1 Battery Compatibility

The XTAR L4 Pro charger is designed to charge 1.2V Ni-MH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) and 1.5V Li-ion (Lithium-ion) rechargeable AA and AAA batteries. It supports simultaneous charging of different battery types and sizes across its four independent slots.

2.3 Understanding the LCD Display

The LCD screen provides real-time information about the charging process for each individual slot:

  • Working Mode: Indicates current operation (e.g., CHG for charging, DisCHG for discharging, Refresh).
  • Error Reminder: Displays "Err" if an incompatible or defective battery is detected.
  • Fully Charged/Refresh Complete: Shows "Done" when the process is finished.
  • Battery Type: Identifies whether the battery is Li-ion 1.5V or Ni-MH.
  • Charging/Discharging Process: Visual battery icon indicates current charge level.

2.4 Charging Process

Once batteries are inserted, the charger automatically begins the charging cycle. The LCD will show the charging status for each battery. Charging time for 1.5V Li-ion AA/AAA batteries is approximately 1.5 hours.

2.5 Refresh and Recovery Modes

The L4 Pro features specialized modes to optimize battery performance:

  • DisCHG Mode (Daily and Quick Refresh): Ideal for Ni-MH batteries that are not excessively old. This mode discharges the battery before recharging it, helping to reduce memory effect.
  • Refresh Mode (Deep and Intelligent Refresh): Suitable for older or frequently used Ni-MH batteries. This mode performs a deeper discharge and recharge cycle to help restore battery capacity.

To activate these modes, press the button below the LCD screen after inserting a Ni-MH battery. Cycle through the modes until the desired option is displayed.

The charger also incorporates Low-Voltage Battery Recovery using Micro-Current Activation Technology. This feature can safely recover over-discharged 1.2V Ni-MH batteries, potentially saving replacement costs.

3. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your XTAR L4 Pro charger:

  • Keep the charger clean and dry. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface.
  • Avoid exposing the charger to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Do not disassemble or attempt to repair the charger yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
  • Store the charger and batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.

4. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your XTAR L4 Pro charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Charger not powering on: Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the charger and a working power source. Verify the power adapter is functioning correctly.
  • "Err" displayed on LCD: This indicates an incompatible battery (e.g., non-rechargeable alkaline) or a defective battery. Remove the battery and try a known good, compatible rechargeable battery.
  • Battery not charging: Check that the battery is inserted with correct polarity. Ensure the battery is a compatible rechargeable type (1.2V Ni-MH or 1.5V Li-ion AA/AAA). If it's an over-discharged Ni-MH battery, the recovery mode may activate automatically.
  • Slow charging: Ensure you are using a 5V-2A USB power adapter. Lower current adapters may result in slower charging times.

If the problem persists, contact customer support for further assistance.
