4.2 Using the Steam Wand for Milk Frothing

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Turn the control knob to the steam position. The machine will rapidly heat up for steaming (approximately 3 seconds).
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Once the steam indicator light is solid, briefly open the steam valve to purge any condensed water. Close the valve.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve fully. Angle the pitcher to create a swirling motion, incorporating air for microfoam.
  5. Monitor Temperature: Continue frothing until the milk reaches your desired temperature and texture. Close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.
  6. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam valve again to purge any milk from inside the wand.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.

5.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard the coffee puck, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under hot water.
  • Steam Wand: As described in the operating instructions, wipe and purge the steam wand immediately after each use.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily or when the indicator floats up.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

5.2 Descaling

Mineral deposits can build up over time, affecting machine performance. Descale your machine regularly, especially if you have hard water. The manufacturer recommends descaling after every 500 shots.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions, or use a solution of 1 tablespoon of citric acid per liter of water.
  2. Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
  3. Place a large container under the brew head and steam wand.
  4. Turn on the machine. Once heated, run approximately half of the solution through the brew head by pressing the double shot button.
  5. Then, run the remaining solution through the steam wand until the tank is empty.
  6. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  7. Run several cycles of fresh water through both the brew head and steam wand to flush out any remaining descaling solution.
  8. Important: Do not use vinegar for descaling, as it can leave a persistent odor and taste.
