5. Operating Instructions
The HAJEX Smith Machine Model X3 offers a variety of exercise options. Always ensure proper form and use safety features.
5.1. Using the Smith Bar:
- Loading Weights: Slide Olympic weight plates onto the sleeves of the Smith bar. Secure them with collars (not included).
- Adjusting Height: Rotate the Smith bar to unlock it from the safety hooks. Raise or lower the bar to the desired starting height. Rotate it back to lock it into the nearest hook.
- Safety Catches: Position the adjustable safety catches just below your lowest intended range of motion for exercises like squats or bench presses. This prevents the bar from dropping too far.
- Engaging/Disengaging: To begin an exercise, lift the bar slightly and rotate it forward to disengage from the hooks. To re-rack, lift the bar, rotate it backward, and lower it onto the nearest hooks.

5.2. Using the Cable Pulley System:
- Selecting Weight: Adjust the pin to select the desired weight stack.
- Attaching Handles: Connect the desired cable attachment (e.g., D-handle, rope, straight bar) to the carabiner on the cable.
- Adjusting Pulley Height: The pulleys are typically adjustable. Release the locking pin, slide the pulley to the desired height, and re-engage the pin securely.
- Smooth Movement: Ensure cables move freely through pulleys without obstruction.

5.3. Using the Power Rack Features (J-Hooks & Spotter Arms):

- Spotter Arms: Insert the longer spotter arms into the uprights below your lowest range of motion for free-weight exercises. These act as a safety net.
- Compatibility: These features are designed for use with a standard Olympic barbell.
