5.2. Wiring Connections

All wiring should be performed with the vehicle's battery disconnected. Use high-quality, appropriate gauge wiring for all connections.

  • Power (B+): Connect a heavy-gauge power cable (e.g., 0-gauge) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the amplifier's B+ terminal. Install an inline fuse holder within 18 inches of the battery, with a fuse rated at 200A for a single amplifier.
  • Ground (GND): Connect a heavy-gauge ground cable (e.g., 0-gauge) from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection. The cable length should be as short as possible.
  • Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM terminal. This wire signals the amplifier to turn on and off with your head unit.
  • RCA Input: Connect RCA cables from your head unit's subwoofer or full-range pre-outs to the amplifier's RCA input jacks.
  • Speaker Output: Connect your subwoofer(s) to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). Verify the total impedance of your subwoofer setup is compatible with the amplifier (1 Ohm minimum).

Connect the included aluminum bass knob remote to the amplifier using the provided cable. Mount the bass knob in a convenient location within reach of the driver.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Initial Power-Up and Gain Setting

  1. After all connections are made and verified, reconnect the vehicle's battery.
  2. Turn on your head unit. The amplifier should power on (indicated by an LED).
  3. Set the amplifier's gain control to its minimum position.
  4. Play a familiar piece of music with strong bass content.
  5. Slowly increase the head unit's volume until it reaches about 75-80% of its maximum level.
  6. Gradually increase the amplifier's gain control until you hear slight distortion, then back it off slightly until the sound is clean. Avoid setting the gain too high, as this can cause clipping and damage to your speakers.

6.2. Tuning Controls

  • Low Pass Filter (LPF): Adjustable from 35Hz to 250Hz. This filter allows frequencies below the set point to pass through to the subwoofer. Adjust this to blend the subwoofer's output with your main speakers.
  • Subsonic Filter: Adjustable from 10Hz to 50Hz. This filter removes extremely low frequencies that are inaudible and can cause damage to your subwoofer. Set it slightly below your subwoofer's resonant frequency or port tuning frequency.
  • Bass Boost: Adjustable from 0 to 9 dB. This control provides an increase in output at a specific frequency. Use sparingly to avoid distortion and potential damage.

6.3. Bass Knob Remote

The bass knob remote allows for convenient adjustment of the subwoofer's output level from the driver's seat. It also features a voltage display to monitor your vehicle's electrical system in real-time.

6.4. Linking (Strapping) Two Amplifiers

The JP23 V1.5 amplifier can be linked with another identical JP23 V1.5 amplifier for increased power output. Refer to the specific wiring diagrams for linking two monoblock amplifiers. When linked, the total fuse rating required is 400A.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's cooling fins are free from obstructions to maintain proper airflow.
  • Connections: Periodically check all power, ground, and speaker connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
