Safety Information

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and gloves when using these tools. Exercise caution when handling sharp blades and heavy tools. Keep tools out of reach of children.

Setup

Before beginning any carpet installation, ensure your work area is clean, well-lit, and free of obstructions. Unpack all tools from the steel toolbox and familiarize yourself with each component. Inspect all tools for any damage before use.

Preparing the Subfloor

Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Repair any imperfections. Install tack strips around the perimeter of the room, leaving a gap of approximately 1/4 to 3/8 inch from the wall, with the pins angled towards the wall.

Preparing the Carpet

Unroll the carpet and allow it to acclimate to the room temperature for at least 24 hours. Cut the carpet into manageable sections, leaving excess material around the edges for trimming.

Operating Instructions

1. Seaming Carpet Sections

When joining two pieces of carpet, use the Loop Pile Cutter or Cushion Back Cutter to create clean, straight edges. Apply seaming tape according to its manufacturer's instructions. Use the 6" Pro Loop Pile Seam Roller to ensure a strong bond and flatten the seam.

2. Stretching and Kicking Carpet

Position the carpet over the tack strips. Use the Deluxe Knee Kicker to stretch the carpet onto the tack strips, starting from one wall and working across the room. Place the kicker head approximately 1-2 inches from the wall, strike the padded end with your knee, and engage the carpet onto the pins. Repeat this process around the room to achieve a taut installation.

3. Trimming Excess Carpet

Once the carpet is stretched, use the Conventional Carpet Trimmer, Dual-Depth Carpet Knife, or 3-in-1 Carpet, Vinyl & Utility Knife to trim the excess carpet along the walls. Ensure a clean, precise cut for a professional finish.

4. Tucking Carpet

Use the EZ Tuk Carpet Tucker or 4" Extra-Wide Stair Tool to tuck the trimmed carpet edge neatly into the gap between the tack strip and the wall.

5. Other Tools

  • Base Molding Lifter: Used to gently pry up baseboards for carpet installation underneath.
  • Staple Hammer: For securing carpet padding or other materials.
  • Ripping Hammer & Nail Driving Bar: For general carpentry tasks, such as removing old tack strips or driving nails.
  • White Rubber Mallet: For tapping tools or materials without causing damage.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your tools:

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean all tools to remove carpet fibers, adhesive residue, and dirt. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent if necessary. Dry thoroughly.
  • Blade Care: Replace knife blades regularly to ensure sharp, clean cuts. Dull blades can cause damage to carpet and require more effort.
  • Lubrication: Apply a light coat of machine oil to moving parts of tools like the knee kicker or staple hammer to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store all tools in the provided steel toolbox in a dry environment to prevent rust and damage.
